Do you want to know what his hidden superpower is? Or what advice he’d give his younger self before starting this journey?
Check out our full Q&A with Dr. Smith below to learn more about the person behind the stethoscope!
1.- What is your title at work?
Pediatrician- I help kids from the newborn period to young adulthood, and at this point in my career, I’m now caring for the children of some of my former patients, so that’s very satisfying.
2.- How long have you worked at the health center?
19 years, at first full-time and now part-time
3.- What’s your hidden talent or superpower at work?
I find myself whistling, humming, or singing at work, sometimes without even realizing I am doing it.
4.- What’s one thing you'd tell your younger self before starting this career?
Pediatrics is mostly happy moments and getting well quickly, thank goodness, but occasionally children experience significant trauma that challenges what you think you know about the world, and you’re still going to have to walk into the next room and carry on as if nothing is weighing on you.
5.- If you could instantly master one new skill, what would it be?
To play an instrument well- piano, cello or acoustic guitar would top my list.
6.- What’s your favorite way to recharge after a busy day at the health center?
Listening to all kinds of music, making playlists, taking the dog for a walk, or reading fiction…and/or there is always more whistling, humming, or singing!
7.- What’s one thing you love about working at SVCHC?
That’s a tie, really, between connecting to different parts of the Sonoma community and working with a dedicated team of people that I’ve gotten to know over the years.
