Most people use their smartphone in the wrong position.
Some even hold their phone against their stomach and curve their entire spine to look down when using it!
The head usually weighs 9-13 lbs.
By tilting the head forward the body has to work hard to hold the head up. This includes the spine, lower part of the neck, and muscles of the back.
For every 15 degrees of forward tilt, the effective weight of the head increase by almost 11 lbs. This increases the effort we must use to hold our head up.
When using a smartphone with the head tiled fully forward, more or less 60 degrees, the weight of the head exerts a force of about 55 lbs between the shoulders.
What do you think happens to your spine with that maintained, repetitive posture?
Interesting facts: 97% of Americans have at least one smartphone. Every year this number is increasing. The average daily use is 4 hours and 30 minutesš«£
