Congratulations to Jimmy Holley, RN, Nurse Lead in the Emergency Department, on being selected as our latest DAISY Award honoree!

Jimmy was nominated by fellow employees and the grateful parents of a young patient. Heather and Chris Bandley brought their 7-year-old son Jaxson to the ER in June and reflected that Jimmy was everything they needed:

"Jimmy was attentive to not only our son but also to making sure we were cared for as well. He took the time to explain the procedures that were going to be done on a very young 7-year-old, who typically hates going to the doctor... Jimmy was calm and caring and he just made us all feel at ease. His southern hospitality truly showed that day and I hope that it does not go unnoticed. He cares deeply for his patients, and you can tell by the way he treats everyone who is in the room."

Thank you, Jimmy, for providing such compassionate care and being a source of calm and healing for those who need it most.

As Yom Kippur begins, we pause for a moment of stillness and reflection. This sacred day offers a chance to renew, to seek peace, and to embrace the hope of a new beginning. Many in our community, including our cherished staff and patients, are observing this holy day through fasting, prayer, and time spent in synagogue. We wish all who observe Yom Kippur, a year filled with clarity, compassion, and renewal.

In retirement, Charleen Beam rediscovered her love of sewing and found community in a local quilting group. But painful arthritis symptoms in her hands made pursuing her passion nearly impossible.

Luckily, Charleen's primary care provider helped her connect with Adventist Health Sonora's Pericles Ioannides, MD, a radiation oncologist at the Diana J. White Cancer Institute, who recently expanded his scope of practice beyond cancer care to offer low-dose radiation therapy for osteoarthritis. For Charleen, results of the treatment have been transformative.

"This has completely changed my outlook, from worrying I will never sew again to being eager to start my next quilting project.”

We are proud to recognize Robin Sullivan, Emergency Department Technician, with the Angel Award, an honor presented to associates who exemplify what it means to live God’s love.

Robin was nominated by two colleagues who were moved by the extraordinary compassion she showed to a family who arrived in the emergency department after losing everything in a house fire this summer.

Todd Wivell was receiving treatment for severe burns he sustained in the fire and was being prepared for transfer to a higher level of care when Robin pulled his wife Tracey aside, knowing they would need essentials while Todd received care out of the area.

“She just said, come with me, you’re going to need some things,” Tracey remembers. “I was a little scared to spend any money given what had happened, and Robin just said don’t worry about it.”

Robin took Tracey to buy clothing, shoes, and other necessities before Todd was transferred. She even gave them a used car she had been planning to give to one of her own children so they would have transportation once they returned to Sonora.

“It seemed so natural for her to do this; she just swept me off my feet,” Tracey says of Robin’s kindness. “There are so many good things that have happened to soften the blow after the fire, and Robin was my first good thing.”

Thank you, Robin, for your incredible generosity and compassion. You embody the heart of our mission: living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope.

Some people inherit a higher risk for certain cancers, including breast, prostate and ovarian.

As part of our Adventist Health Early All-Around Detection (AHEAD) program, we offer testing for hereditary risk factors, so you and your doctor can understand your risk and develop the best plan to monitor your health and even reduce your chances of developing cancer. Then, a genetic counselor will work with you to develop a personalized cancer screening and prevention plan based on your inherited and lifestyle risk factors.

For more information about hereditary cancer syndrome testing and to set up an appointment, call us at 209-536-3750.
