Members of our community have reached out with questions regarding the recent emergency transport involving an infant in Tuolumne County after public reports referenced a “midwife.”

First and most importantly, our hearts and prayers are with the baby and family during this difficult time.

We would also like to clarify that Sierra Natural Birth Center, including all licensed midwives and certified nurse-midwives affiliated with our practice, were not involved in this situation in any manner.

As one of the longest-standing midwifery practices in Tuolumne County, we understand why community members may have questions when reports reference a “midwife”.

Our practice is committed to licensed, legally practicing, professional, evidence-based maternity care, including appropriate risk assessment, collaboration with medical providers, and timely transfer to higher levels of care whenever medically indicated.

Because we were not involved in this situation, we cannot comment on the circumstances or details of this case. We appreciate the community’s understanding and continued support.

11 years ago today… a dream come true💕

June 19, 2014 at 10:33 in the morning, little Elora “Ellie” came into the world—the very first baby born at what was then the Sierra Natural Birthing Home. She arrived in the loving arms of her parents, Jesse and Megan, who had driven two hours from El Portal to be here. They chose us, and they chose Ellie Jasmer, CNM, to walk with them through that sacred experience.

We were still under construction—literally. We were building the birthing rooms, working day and night to meet the state’s licensing requirements so that one day soon, we could become a fully licensed birth center and open our doors to all families, including those on Medi-Cal. Ellie’s birth happened right in the middle of that dream becoming real.

And what a birth it was. Peaceful, powerful, natural.
A beginning.

Ellie wasn’t just the first baby born here—she was the first heartbeat of Sierra Natural Birth Center. She and her family will always be woven into the soul of this place.

Today, she turns 11.
And today, this center turns 11 too.
