Don’t be that guy……..
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Elevated Fire Threat for Jones County on Sunday. The NWS states “open burning is strongly discouraged and fires are more likely to escape containment during upcoming weather conditions”. The combination of gusty winds, dry fuels, and low relative humidity values will result in dangerous fire conditions on Sunday.
🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩
The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Red Flag Warning for Jones County, which is in effect until 6 PM CST Sunday.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.
Please take the following precautions:
- Avoid all outdoor burning, including debris piles and burn barrels.
- Do not use grills, smokers, or outdoor cooking equipment that produce open flames.
- Secure trailer chains and avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
- Properly dispose of ci******es; never throw them from a vehicle.
- Postpone activities that could create sparks (welding, grinding, mowing dry grass).
- Ensure water tanks or extinguishers is readily available if working outdoors.
- Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to 911.
- Review evacuation plans and stay alert for rapidly changing fire conditions.
- Follow guidance from local emergency management and fire officials.
Please help protect Jones County by staying alert and fire safe!
Simply put, don’t be that guy tomorrow………don’t burn. It really can wait until safer weather conditions exists.
