RT was a huge influence on my playing. In my earlier years before even realizing it. Moreso than Michael Hedges - when I pick up a classical, this is vibe I immediately fall into. Combine Towner and Zappa, of course with the overshadowing of Coltrane...sometimes I lose myself. In a very good way. I once had another influential player tell me, after I explained this to him, to "fu***ng run with it then - you'll hit bumps in the road but who gives a s**t." That guy was Pat Metheny. Yes...major bumps in the road. But I'm still here thanks to these guys. RIP, Ralph.

Great to get things back on track after the holidays! "A Toute le Monde" (Megadeth), "A New Day Yesterday" (Jethro Tull), "Wondering Where the Lions Are" (Bruce Cockburn). Conversation about wrongful advice from YouTube guitar instructors and the misuses of AI as a songwriting and re-arranging tool. Sooo, I just did a thing out of curiosity. I plugged one of my older songs, "Take Me Today" into Suno (the AI music program). I told it to go with a heavy America style. I don't NOT like it? BUT, I can see where it is easily used as a crutch rather than a tool. My original arrangement is vocal, acoustic guitar and hand drums. Here's the AI cover straight out of Jason Aldean's back shed.

For those of you not familiar with the absolute genius monster that was Anthony Jackson, watch close here. He, along with Jaco and Jeff Berlin, helped pave the way for modern jazz-fusion players. Not just as bass players, but as thinkers. Classicists but outside the box and moving forward. Without them we wouldn't have our Tal Wilkenfelds and Esperanza Spaldings, Les Claypools and John Myungs. RIP, Anthony
