The Caring Cottage: A group home for the elderly

The Caring Cottage: A group home for the elderly Where Everyone Is Family. Fresh flowers, a record player, lunch cooking on the stove. It’s the little details that make a house special.

Providing 24-hour compassionate person-centered care .Cognitive assessment performed to deliver individualized and meaningful therapeutic activities.Glenda Brown,PT/owner evaluates and creates exercise plans to minimize decline in mobility. We opened the first Caring Cottage location on Martin Lane in 2015 with a vision: that we could create a place for elderly people in need of residential care in the South Bend area that felt more like a home than an institution—a place where people would feel comfortable and cared for, as if they were with their own family. We created The Caring Cottage with this vision in mind and paid attention to every detail, from the cozy Adirondack chairs on our beautifully manicured front lawn, to the open layout that’s naturally wheelchair accessible—including all 5 bedrooms and the 1.5 bathrooms. In 2020, we opened our second location on Brandel Avenue. This home has a modern French Country feel, and an open kitchen that’s perfect for when we all make cookies together in the afternoon. As this happy home fills up, we are so pleased
to be able to carry on the atmosphere, and quality, and to care
for more residents. This location offers 5 bedrooms and 2 fully accessible bathrooms. Our homes are in quiet residential neighborhoods, and all of our renovations and accessibility modifications are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible. From the inside and out, the Caring Cottage looks and feels like home.

We are happy to officially welcome Gloria to our home with a pumpkin painting party, replete with pizza and wine. Although she has been staying with us for a few days, our hectic schedule has prevented me from taking pictures. Today, the girls' fall break enabled them to participate alongside the ladies, thereby enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.

We are also celebrating in advance Kristy’s birthday. She has been instrumental in planning fun activities for our ladies for several years now.Help us wish her a happy birthday.

The Caring Cottage

Where everyone is family.

Glenda Brown left her career of more than 20 years experience in physical therapy in 2015 in order to bring a level of care to area elderly patients in need of 24 hour care that she didn’t feel was available in South Bend. It was her dream to open a 5 bedroom home with a cozy environment, excellent individualized care, home cooking, and as much support as possible brought directly on-site.

Glenda works with her staff to produce consistent, quality care that meets her exacting standards to create a clean, inviting, comfortable experience for each of The Caring Cottage residents. Our priorities are informed by Glenda’s values: family, quality, and personal dignity. We all work together everyday to provide a real home for our residents.
