Sedra Ketcham, NP - Beacon Medical Group Hospital Specialties

Sedra Ketcham, NP - Beacon Medical Group Hospital Specialties I knew very early on in my life that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine," says Sedra Ketcham. That was that, and I never looked back." Do you have pets? Yes!

"I was just eight years old when I decided I wanted to be a nurse." Of course, that’s perfectly understandable considering her father was a family physician in private practice and her mother is a registered nurse. "As I grew older, I considered becoming a physician," she adds. "When I wasn’t sure I could balance family life with physician life, my father suggested I consider nursing. As a nurse practitioner specializing in palliative care, Sedra works alongside several other disciplines, including specialists and therapists, in an effort to improve quality of life and decrease suffering for people dealing with life-threatening illnesses or complex chronic diseases. "I chose to practice at Beacon because my husband works here, and I’ve seen first-hand how well Beacon not only takes care of their patients, but also their providers." Sedra’s philosophy of care is simple: treat patients the way you would want to be treated if the tables were turned. "I strive to personally get to know each of my patients and their families so we can work together to achieve their health goals," she says. "I want my patients to know that I will be here for them on the good and not so good days and that we are a team, working together to improve their health and well-being." In her own words…

Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My mom – she taught me how to persevere, to grin and bear it and – most of all – to enjoy the journey. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember most about it? My first official job was cleaning my dad’s office. I would go each week to clean and my mom would inspect my work when I finished. What is your favorite food? Popcorn – you can’t beat a bowl of the buttery, salty goodness! Plus, I never met a flavored popcorn that I didn’t like. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? I really enjoy digital photography as well as trying new recipes and baking. We have a 130lb one-year-old Newfoundland. What is something most people don’t know about you? I can play the flute.

Today we celebrated the topping out of our new Memorial Hospital patient tower as the final structural beam was set in place, bringing us one step closer to transforming health care in our region.

This is a journey that started several years ago, when we re-imagined the future of adult acute care delivery in our community. Following the enclosure of the tower, interior work will begin, continuing until we welcome our first patients into the building in the fall of 2026.

Thank you to Walsh Construction, CannonDesign, our incredible hospital teams and community for your unwavering support as we build the future of health care together. We appreciate our local news outlets for covering the special event!

Balance. Strength. Precision. If there were office Olympics, Ben Hur steel connectors Bobby Baze and Connor Lhamon would certainly take gold. About nine or so stories up, they’re connecting a 1,000+ pound beam from Lenex Steel Company onto the new Memorial Hospital patient tower like it’s just another Thursday.

With experience in welding, rigging, bolting and trained extensively in fall protection, Bobby and Connor make their work look easy. Does your office have this kind of view? Special thanks to Walsh Construction for helping us highlight these high-rise heroes.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, pregnancy and infant loss affects 1 in 4 women.

To honor the memory of these infants, a global candlelight event, Wave of Light, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital, Decio Building, Auditorium B, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Invited to attend are parents and loved ones suffering the loss of a pregnancy or infant. Please join us to hear from event speakers Chaplain Karleen Hallock, Kyle and Jillian Woolsey, Emily Gaona, and Lisa Haines, and to connect with others grieving the loss of a child.

There will also be an opportunity to speak with grief counselors from the community. Candles will be lit for one hour (7-8 p.m.). Event is sponsored by EGH Women and Children’s Services.
