We are honored to join forces with the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team through their fundraiser to fight cancer! This inspiring partnership combines our researchers' passion and determination with these incredible athletes' energy to raise awareness and support for cancer research. Together, we’re making strides toward a future without cancer, and we couldn’t be more excited to collaborate for such an important cause.

𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗘𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝗪𝗲 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝘁, 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲

In 1997, my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, shaking our family to its core. Our family is grateful to Dr. Guojing Chen for his deep expertise and care. My grandmother fought bravely with her unwavering spirit and emerged victorious. Now, in 2024, at the age of 89, she continues to inspire us all. In honor of her journey, I am proud to join the ambassador team on behalf of Harper Cancer Research Institute at University of Notre Dame, supporting the mission of the American Cancer Society to save more lives from breast cancer.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:

According to the World Health Organization, in 2022, 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer globally, leading to 670,000 deaths. This disease impacts not only women but countless families, like ours. Early detection and breakthrough research are essential in this fight!

Welcome to the Cell-Cell, Stanza-Stanza event! Join us for an exciting gathering of poetry enthusiasts and science buffs alike. This unique event brings together two former colleagues, both passionate about cancer care. Award-winners in their respective fields, this discussion will illuminate the ways in which poetry influences Zorlutuna’s work in bioengineering and how Morrissy’s poetry is informed by science and cancer care. Through poetry and non-fiction, Morrissy’s work deals with a terminal cancer diagnosis in her family. She will share poems, which will act as a springboard for conversation about Zorlutuna’s research on cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions. The conversation will enhance your understanding of cancer care from a scientific perspective while also addressing the emotional implications of serious illness. The goal of this event is to develop a new language for understanding cancer across disciplines, which can, in turn, help us to face the complex challenges of cancer care across all of our communities, both in the United States and internationally.

Join us in the Hesburgh Center Auditorium and immerse yourself in an evening filled with thought-provoking discussions and creative expressions. Whether you are a scientist, a poet, or simply curious about the connections between these two disciplines, this event is sure to inspire and engage you.
