My client was struggling with anxiety in her relationship. They argued a lot and she was exhausted.โฃ
โฃ
They would have misunderstandings and when she tried to explain her point of view, he would quickly shut her down, argue his points, or try to "help" her understand.โฃ
โฃ
It felt useless.โฃ
โฃ
The more she tried to speak up, the more he shut her down. The more she stayed quiet, the easier it became.โฃ
โฃ
The problem with that was over time, she started to resent him, and even bordered on hating him. Her anxiety was getting worse.โฃ
โฃ
To make matters worse, instead of him realizing there was a problem, he took her silence to mean she was finally seeing things his way.โฃ
โฃ
When she eventually had enough and did speak up, it usually came out messy and confusing, to which he stated she was being too sensitive or disrespectful toward him.โฃ
โฃ
No matter what she did, it didn't work. She felt increasingly more invisible in this one-man show.โฃ
โฃ
Though he wasn't listening to her silence, she started to listen and with that, found her voice.
