If we only knew...

For those outside of the FDNY family, September 11th is a moment that lives in history – an infamous day remembered once a year. For most, it is a date where a city grieves once again for those taken from us and celebrates the unwavering bravery of so many heroes.

For the FDNY, September 11th is far different. It always will be. That day is not only a dark memory from our past; it is sadly a very real part of our present as well. It is a day which continues to impact our Department at every level, taking more friends and loved ones from our family each year.

At each anniversary, the number of heroes lost to illnesses from the FDNY’s response to the attacks on the World Trade Center grows larger. On Wednesday, September 14th at 1600 hours, a virtual ceremony will be accessible here on our page where we will add the following 37 names of new fallen heroes to that wall.

We do so out of respect, admiration and love for their brave and selfless contributions to the rescue and recovery effort at the World Trade Center site. Continuing to keep alive the names and the memory of those we have lost is how we will never forget.
