This is a disturbing article about exposure therapy at the VA for trauma. It just doesn't make sense and seems unethical. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, can help transform the emotional impact of actual events, not by simply wearing ourselves out emotionally, but by creating safety with which to explore an event in a new way, having it lose it's power through this transformation. This is what can provide healing. I wish the VA would offer hypnotherapy!

I was a veteran who needed therapy. What I got was another kind of battle.

Happy World Hypnosis Day! In celebration, I am off on a healing retreat, but I wanted to share with you this great clip of Lucille Ball getting hypnotized by Pat Collins, a famous stage hypnotist in the 60s and 70s. I don't really like stage shows, but I LOVE LUCY! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mefJpWG3XfQ

A personal favorite of mine. Lucy gets hypnotized. From the episode "Lucy and Pat Collins." I apologize for the low quality.

I had my last work day for the summer, as I enter into the clinical training program at Smith College School of Social Work. What a powerful month, filled with many clients who came before I left town. I am so grateful and inspired by the transformation, healing, hard work and love that has been such a core part of my experience with clients. Thank you. And see you in September!!

Dear Hypnotherapy Friends:

I'm writing with big news about my work and practice.

I've had my private practice now for 4 years and have led hundreds of transformative healing sessions. I have been trying to figure out a way to make my work accessible to even more people and continue to deepen my own skills as a therapist.

To that end, I will be entering into a graduate program in counseling and clinical social work starting June 1st, and will be away June-August for three summers. This is an exciting, and yes intimidating, prospect to go back to school, but also feels very expansive and growthful. The process I am embarking on will take several years, but ultimately I will be licensed and able to accept insurance for this life-changing and affirming therapeutic work.

I will be moving out of my current office at All Wellness at the end of May. I will be back in September and will be sharing an office, probably with another hypnotherapist. My practice hours will be narrower, but I am confident that I will be able to see almost as many people in a more focused amount of time.

For now though, please make an appointment for April or May, to take you into the summer feeling recharged, more balanced and confident. Even one session has a long-term impact and I want to see as many people as possible for a good send-off! In addition to daytime availability, I have evening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Thanks so much for entrusting your healing work to me. And do call or email to set up a session for a successful transition into summer!

Happy Spring Equinox!

The days have gotten long, and so warm, so fast. The crocuses are up in my yard already! It is also a time of transition when we can be a bit overwhelmed with all the excitement of Spring, and may need to give our bodies a chance to adjust mindfully.

Is there something you want to change or set out to do this Spring? What do you need to adjust to make it happen? I have found over and over again with hypnotherapy that changes are integrated into our bodies in ways that make new habits, behaviors or feelings natural. We *want* to do the new thing, like exercise more or eat differently, or be more social, or clean out our closets. Whatever changes you may desire, aligning your subconscious will help create that flow to make that change a reality.

I'll share a brief story of my recent hypnosis success: In January I was diagnosed with pre diabetes--a red flat that I needed to radically change my diet and eliminate as much sugar and processed foods as possible. Like many of us, I relished my mid-day cookie or chocolate bar to help surge me through my day. Shortly after my diagnosis, I attended a Somatic Healing Hypnotherapy Training, and while there to boost my own skills, I also had an amazing healing experience with one of my classmates. We worked through the roots of my body's relationship to sugar, how I learned to associate sugar with comfort as a kid. By doing a fantastic realignment with my blood cells and my pancreas (trust me, I didn't even know where my pancreas was in my conscious mind!) I've had a deep change in what foods I even am interested in.

I have not had a chocolate bar in two months, nor have I wanted one. I've lost 8 pounds. I'm still learning what I should be eating, but my desires have changed. It's been easy to avoid sugar. I just don't want it. This is what happened years ago when I used hypnosis to stop smoking--quitting was easy because I simply didn't *want* to smoke.

As you experience all the wild bursting forth of Spring, the balance of the equinox, and the connections you have on this planet, I hope you are mindful, gentle and loving with yourselves. And that you are walking in excited possibility and growth, celebrating all the wonderful things you bring to the world!

with love,
Samuel
