***No additional or extra vaccines are needed due to this case***

Who should get a measles vaccine (MMR)?

Unfortunately we had water damage at our Milton office following repairs to our roof. We will close on Tuesday 11/5 to assess and make a plan.

Our Burlington and South Burlington offices both remain open. Patients from our Milton office can be seen at our other offices for urgent visits.

If your child has an appointment already scheduled at the Milton office we will call you to reschedule.

At this time we do not know about the remainder of the week. Please check here for updates.

We have RSV shots for infants. Please see eligibility below and call to schedule a nurse visit if your child qualifies. We can also administer at an upcoming appointment but would recommend your child get this in the next several weeks.

Your child must be under 8 months at the time of the shot.

If your child received the RSV shot last winter they are NOT eligible for a second one. They still have antibodies from the first!

If mom received an RSV vaccine two weeks before delivery the baby is NOT eligible for an RSV shot. They still have antibodies they got from mom!

There are some guidelines for an RSV shot for kids 8-19 months with significant health problems. Discuss with your doctor if your child is in that category. This includes children who are severely immunocompromise, born prematurely and have chronic lung disease, have cystic fibrosis or if your child is American Indian or Alaskan Native.

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Dr. Michelle Perron passed away unexpectedly on Friday May 17th. Dr. Perron was an incredibly compassionate physician who cared deeply for all of her patients and families and was dedicated to serving our pediatric community.

As we grieve this tragic loss, we want to assure you that your healthcare remains our top priority. To ensure continuity of care, Dr. Perron’s patients will be temporarily assigned to Dr. Denise Aronzon or Dr. Alicia Veit in our Burlington office and can opt to continue care there or choose a new primary care physician within or outside of our practice. We will be sending individual letters to each of Dr. Perron’s patients very soon.

For those who would like to write a note in tribute to Dr. Perron, we will have cards available for patients and families at our Burlington office or you can mail or drop messages off at any of our office locations. We plan to collect these to share with her family.

We are thinking of you all and here to support you during this very difficult time of shared grief.

Sincerely,

Timber Lane Pediatrics

Our South Burlington office will remain open for all of our patients for in person or video visits and phone call advice from 1-5.

Measles! 😱 There is an outbreak of measles in the US. We have not heard of cases in VT, but we can all do our part to protect our community. Measles is so contagious! Read on for symptoms and how to protect your family and community. If you are planning international travel see below for who qualifies for an early measles vaccine.

What is measles and why is it dangerous?
🤒 Measles causes high fever, cough, congestion, red and watery eyes and a rash 3-5 days into symptoms
👧🏾 Kids under 5 are at more risk from complications
🏥 Measles can lead to hospitalization, ear infections, pneumonia, premature birth, swelling of the brain, deafness, and death

What makes measles so contagious?
🦠 The virus can linger in the air for 2 hours
🤏 You can become infected if you touch a surface with virus and then touch your mouth, eyes or nose
😷 Infected people can spread measles for up to 4 days before and 4 days after development of the rash

What can I do to protect my child and community?
💉 The measles, mumps, rubella vaccine, MMR, is given at 12 months and 4 years. 1 dose is 93% effective and 2 doses is 97% effective
🤰 Vaccinated moms pass antibodies to the newborn that can last for several months and offer protection to the baby
↗️ Encourage others to get vaccinated. Goal is that >95% of the population is vaccinated to provide protection to those who cannot be vaccinated and those at high risk. This is called herd immunity.
😷 If your child is exposed to measles call our office. Your child may be eligible for post exposure MMR vaccine depending on their age and vaccination status.
✈️ If your child is 6-11 months and you are traveling internationally we recommend that your child get the MMR vaccine at least 2 weeks before travel. Your child will then get the routine MMR series at 1 and 4.
🧳 If your child has only received 1 dose of MMR and you are traveling internationally we recommend that your child get the 2nd MMR vaccine at least 2 weeks before travel. This will count as their 2nd and final vaccination. This second vaccine must be 28 days after the first dose.
