Can I see your tongue? 😛

Don’t be surprised if I ask you this in your first (and subsequent) acupuncture appointments — it’s just a key tool in identifying your needs in your treatment.

😛 The tongue holds so much information about your health and it’s one of the first things we check in your first acupuncture appointment. 👩‍⚕️

A question I’m often asked is, “Do you ever needle yourself?”

It’s not often, but the answer is: yes! 🙋‍♀️

Right now I’m dealing with a flare of a chronic knee injury after climbing Mansfield a few weeks ago.  During this treatment I used only local needles and was surprised to feel intense pressure during the treatment in my great toe, lateral hip and sacro-iliac joint of my low back.  This tells me that I need some deeper needling and body work in these areas; they are all connected, and my knee pain is being fed by tension in these other areas.  I also used our Celluma for a 30 minute LED light therapy treatment, followed by moxa which is a heat therapy, and I closed out the treatment with some topical blood-moving herbs.

When you come to the clinic, there are many options to help manage pain and other symptoms. If you have any questions, we’re here to answer them. And if reading this is reminding you it’s time for you to book an appointment, contact us:

Not a fan of needles? Acupuncture might surprise you. Most patients describe the sensation of receiving acupuncture as a light tingling or warmth. Some say it feels like nothing at all. Acupuncture needles are inserted very gently and, believe it or not, are thinner than a human hair!

Feeling more achy when the seasons shift? You’re not imagining it.

Changes in barometric pressure, humidity, and temperature can worsen joint pain, migraines, and even old injuries. Many people report flareups during weather changes, and Traditional Chinese Medicine has long acknowledged this connection. Acupuncture helps restore balance and improve circulation, easing the body’s response to external changes.

We’re here to help! Book a session with us online, or by phone or email.

Make this Mung Bean Soup your springtime go-to!

It’s nourishing, cleansing, and rooted in Chinese Medicine principles. It supports liver health and is a perfect meal as the seasons shift.

Recipe via Cup of Life Healing Center 🍲 🙏

Ingredients:
* 1 cup mung beans rinsed and checked for stones
* 3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
* 1 large leek thinly sliced
* 1 ½ cups diced carrot (approx 3 large carrots)
* 1 ½ cups diced potato (approx 1 large)
* 1 cup diced celery (2-3 stalks)
* 2 bay leaves
* 2 cloves fresh garlic (crushed)
* 5 cups vegetable broth
* 1-2 large lemons juiced
* 2 Tablespoons fresh dill chopped
* 6 ounces fresh spinach or other fresh spring greens
* salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
1. Place the mung beans into a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to the boil, then turn the heat off, and put a lid on the pot. Set aside to soak while you’re preparing the rest of the ingredients for the soup.
2. While the beans are soaking, prepare the vegetables. Slice the leeks, peel and dice the carrots, dice the celery, dice the potato, and crush the garlic.
3. Heat 3 Tablespoons of olive oil in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
4. Add the sliced leek, and sauté until it softens and becomes a bit translucent.
5. Add the potatoes, celery, carrots, crushed garlic, and bay leaves to the pot and stir to combine.
Sauté the vegetables, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes.
6. Drain the mung beans and give them a quick rinse.
7. Add the beans to the pot with the vegetables, along with 5 cups of vegetable broth.
8. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and put a lid on it.
9. Simmer until the beans are tender, about 15-20 minutes if you have soaked them first.
10. Once the beans are tender, add the lemon juice, dill, and fresh spinach (or other greens). Tip: add the spinach a handful at a time and stir until it begins to wilt.
11. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
12. Serve hot, with lots of dill on top for garnish.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is the season of renewal, growth, and upward movement. After the deep stillness of winter—when our Qi retreats inward to conserve energy—spring invites our Qi to rise, expand, and reach outward. Like buds breaking through the soil, our life force begins to stir, becoming more active and expressive. This shift brings Qi closer to the surface of our bodies, waking up our senses and supporting movement, creativity, and new beginnings. Spring is associated with the Liver, which governs the smooth flow of Qi throughout the body. When our Liver Qi is flowing freely, we feel energized, inspired, and clear-headed. Acupuncture can support this natural transition, helping to unblock stagnant energy and align our bodies with the season’s rhythm. Now is a powerful time to stretch, breathe deeply, and reconnect with the world around us—just as our Qi is doing the same.
