Notice: Effective June 30, I am closing my office in South Charleston, WV. I will continue to use telehealth for a few clients, and I will continue to respond to Critical Incident requests. I appreciate and am humbled that I was requested to provide counseling services to so may clients over the past 15 years. Thank you to everyone who supported me.

Some people may start to feel consistently “down” when the days get shorter in the fall and winter and begin to feel better in the spring with its longer daylight hours. In some cases, these mood changes are more serious and, as with all types of depression, can affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression characterized by its recurrent seasonal pattern, with symptoms lasting about four to five months per year. NIMH expert Dr. Matthew Rudorfer will discuss the signs, symptoms, treatments, and the latest research on SAD during a livestream event on Oct. 26. This week is and Sunday is . When someone has a mental illness, people often judge the person. People say inappropriate things about such illnesses that they would never say about anyone who has a physical disease. Not implying that we handle physical illness really well either. Please consider those in your life that you could perhaps support just a little more.
