“The Histamine Bucket”
Imagine your body has a bucket.
Every day, different things add to that bucket:
• foods
• stress
• lack of sleep
• hormones
• heat
• infections
• mold/pollen exposure
• fragrances/chemicals
• exercise
• nervous system overload
• medications
• environmental triggers
For some people, the bucket empties efficiently.
For others — especially those with MCAS or histamine issues — the bucket may already start partially full and empty much more slowly.
This is why symptoms can feel inconsistent or unpredictable.
You may tolerate something one day…
and react to the exact same thing the next.
Not necessarily because the food changed —
but because the bucket was already fuller that day.
When the bucket overflows, symptoms may appear such as:
• flushing
• itching
• hives
• reflux
• bloating
• headaches
• dizziness
• anxiety/adrenaline surges
• rapid heart rate
• fatigue
• brain fog
• shortness of breath
This is also why many people feel confused when testing doesn’t provide one clear answer.
MCAS is often not about ONE trigger.
It’s the total load on the system.
The goal is not perfection or fear around every possible trigger.
The goal is helping lower overall burden so the body has more room to regulate and recover.
