Super Bowl is one week away. Whether you’re watching for the Patriots (or… the Seahawks), Bad Bunny, or the commercials, we’ve got a fun way to make every point count.

$10 gets you a Super Bowl Care Square and the chance to support one of 15 local nonprofits. Stick with one charity or spread your squares across a few — your game plan, your call.

Once all the squares are sold, we’ll randomly place them on the board and post a photo of the completed board, with the Patriots across the top in red and the Seahawks down the side in blue. The numbers 0–9 will be shuffled and placed once along the top and once down the side.

At the end of each quarter, we take the last digit of each team’s score, line them up on the board, and boom — the charity in that square wins $250. One nonprofit could take home $1,000 if they land on all four winning squares.

Example:
If the score is Patriots 24 and Seahawks 17, that’s a 4 and a 7. The square where those numbers meet takes the prize.

The following local nonprofits were chosen based on community input:

The Academy of Performing Arts
Behavioral Health Innovators
Cape Abilities
Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center
Carrie A. Seaman Shelter
Chatham Conservation Foundation
Chatham-Nauset Lions Club
Friends of the Brewster Dog Park
Friends of the Eastham Public Library
Homeless Prevention Council
Lower Cape Outreach Council
Sharing Kindness
Sight Loss Services
Sustainable Cape
Wild Care – Cape Cod

Quick checkout tip:
You’ll see an optional contribution to support Zeffy, the secure nonprofit fundraising platform we use. That contribution goes directly to Zeffy, not to us. If you’d rather skip it, just choose “Other” and enter $0 — we truly will not be offended (and we’d never even know).

Big thanks to the West Bridgewater Lions Club and Jerry Lawrence for the inspiration behind this fundraiser.

Today begins White Cane Awareness Month with White Cane Awareness Day observed on October 15th. We recently received a call from a white cane user whose cane was struck by a vehicle which then drove away! Thankfully the person was physically ok, but the cane was destroyed.

So today we are asking everyone to please be aware and we are taking the opportunity to provide education about the law in Massachusetts.
