Who knew Hungry Hungry Hippos could double as occupational therapy? 🦛💪

This human-sized version turns play into powerful skill building!

Lay prone on a yoga/peanut ball while walking hands forward to obtain balls.

Skills targeted:
Core strength & postural control
Shoulder stability & upper body strength
Motor planning & coordination
Body awareness & sensory regulation
Endurance for classroom tasks like writing and seated work

Sometimes the best therapy doesn’t look like therapy at all. 🎯

Save this activity for your next OT session or movement break!

Beads + gel fun = hands-on learning! 💧🫧
This sensory-rich activity targeted finger isolation, visual motor integration, hand-eye coordination, and tactile feedback while keeping little hands engaged and exploring. Picking, pushing, and moving beads through the gel helps strengthen fine motor control needed for writing, dressing, and everyday tasks in OT! ✨🖐️ PediatricOT OTActivities HandEyeCoordination SensoryFeedback

Spring-themed fine motor + cognitive fun 🌸

In this pediatric OT activity, we combined craft, coordination, and problem-solving all in one!

What we did:
Children cut out flower shapes, colored them, and matched each flower with a number (1–20). After laminating, they used a hole punch to strengthen hand muscles and threaded a pipe cleaner through the holes. To finish, they strung beads based on the flower’s number and color—or followed therapist-led directions (e.g., “add 5 blue beads”).

Why it’s powerful:
This simple activity targets multiple developmental skills at once:

✂️ Fine motor strength (cutting, hole punching, threading)
🎯 Hand-eye coordination and bilateral coordination
🔢 Number recognition and early math skills
🎨 Color identification and visual discrimination
🧠 Following directions & working memory
🤲 Grasp development and finger dexterity

OT tip:
Flip the board over and turn it into a listening game—give multi-step directions to challenge sequencing and attention!

Functional, fun, and easy to adapt for different levels 🌼

Today’s letter is Y: Yarn
Yarn activities aren’t just crafts—they’re powerful tools in Occupational Therapy 🧶✨

From improving fine motor skills and hand strength to boosting focus, coordination, and creativity, simple yarn play can support big developmental goals. Whether it’s threading, wrapping, or weaving, every movement builds independence and confidence.
A very inexpensive and a creative yet fun activity to do with your child. This simple activity promotes:

Grasp development: Encourages tripod or gross grasp on the fishing rod
Finger isolation: Adjusting grip and manipulating the string requires controlled finger use
Wrist stability: Maintaining a steady hand while lowering/raising the line
Hand strength: Sustained grasp and controlled lifting of objects
Hand-eye coordination: Aligning the “hook” or magnet with the target fish
Motor planning (praxis): Sequencing movements (lower → aim → catch → lift)
Bilateral coordination: One hand stabilizes while the other manipulates (or assists with fish placement)
Graded movement control: Regulating speed and force to successfully “catch” without overshooting
Visual tracking: Following the movement of the string and fish
Visual-motor integration: Coordinating vision with precise hand movements
Spatial awareness: Judging distance and positioning of the rod relative to the target
Visual attention: Sustained focus to complete the task
Sensory Component (Bonus for OT framing)
Proprioceptive input: Through lifting and controlling the fishing rod
Tactile input: Handling yarn, fish pieces, and materials
Vestibular integration (if dynamic): If done standing or reaching, supports balance and body awareness
Engagement & regulation: Play-based nature increases motivation and supports attention , therapy OT

Repeating letter X 🤪as can’t resist to share with you all this fun activity
X is for X: X-Ray Vision… OT style! 🩻

This simple illusion activity turns art + science into a hands-on way to build important developmental skills. ✨

🎨 Drawing & Coloring the Image
• Fine motor control
• Pencil grasp development
• Hand strength & endurance
• Visual-motor integration
• Motor planning and attention to detail
✍️ Tracing the Important Lines
• Precision and graded pressure control
• Visual discrimination (identifying key features)
• Hand-eye coordination
• Executive functioning and planning
🧠 Preparing the Bag & Setting Up the Experiment
• Bilateral coordination
• Sequencing multi-step directions
• Problem solving and task organization

Functionally, this supports classroom participation - writing, drawing, following directions, completing projects, and engaging in hands-on learning tasks. Activities like this strengthen the foundation for academic success while keeping learning playful and motivating.
