New research published in this month’s American Journal of Public Health using data from the 2015 CDC Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System shows that 17.6% of U.S. high schoolers report having engaged in NSSI at least once in the preceding 12 months, including just over 1 in 10 males & nearly 1 in 4 females. These high, steady rates suggest NSSI may be considered an adolescent public health problem.
