The cycle of shame is a normal part of the human experience, but it can keep us stuck. Let's break it down...

Triggering Event: Something happens that triggers a sense of shame. This could be a mistake, a perceived failure, or negative feedback from others.

Feelings of Shame: Intense shame, which can manifest as self-criticism, embarrassment, or a sense of worthlessness. Shame often runs pretty deep and can impact our self-worth.

Response: In an attempt to cope with or escape from this shame, one may engage in behaviors that are meant to numb or distract from the feeling. This could include avoiding certain situations, isolating oneself, or engaging in self-destructive behaviors.

Consequences and Reinforcement: These responses often lead to further negative consequences, such as worsening relationships, losing something important or even more shame.
