Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is WAY more common than most people realize—especially if you’ve had a vaginal birth. Studies now estimate that over 50–70% of women who’ve had a baby experience some degree of prolapse, but many don’t even know it because it goes undiagnosed or is brushed off as “just part of having kids.” (Spoiler: It doesn’t have to be!)

Certain things can increase your risk, like multiple pregnancies, pushing for a long time, delivering a larger baby, aging (fun), or carrying extra weight. If you’ve ever felt a heaviness or bulging in your pelvic area, noticed bladder leaks, or felt like something just isn’t right down there—your pelvic floor is telling you something!

The good news? Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy (PFPT) can help. Research shows that strengthening and retraining your pelvic floor can significantly improve prolapse symptoms without surgery. So if you’re dealing with that “tampon falling out” feeling or pressure that won’t quit, don’t ignore it—help exists!

Drop a ✋ in the comments if this sounds familiar or you’ve been told that your symptoms are just a part of motherhood. or DM me if you’re ready to get back to feeling like yourself again!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had several clients vulnerably share with me their personal postpartum struggles. 👶🏼The struggles that aren’t just about their leakage or the gap in their abdomen, but the ones about their mental health… how they felt about their load, their life balance, their work, and how they view themselves. One of those clients was only 4 months postpartum, struggling with how she viewed her postpartum body, worried that she would never shed the baby weight and feel like herself again. ONLY FOUR MONTHS.

This post is for every single mama who has felt defeated in her new role as “mama”, even if only for a moment. It’s for every mama who has vowed to “snap back” but has realized that their postpartum is a marathon and not a sprint. For every mama that needs a reminder that something is better than nothing and consistency is better than perfection. It’s for every mom who’s grieving the old chapters while loving every minute of these new chapters..This is for every mama that has had moments where she feels like she is not doing enough… for her baby, for her household, for her job, or most importantly, for herself.

We see you. You ARE ENOUGH. 💕 tag a mama who needs to see this!

🩷 It’s been a while, so I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself. I am Dr. Arienne Wrigley Ashby. I am a pelvic floor (and sports ortho) physical therapist, wife, friend, and mother to three beautiful girls (girl moms, where are you!?)

I became a pelvic floor physical therapist after my oldest daughter was born. I was already a PT working in sports ortho, and was very active before and during my pregnancy. I thought I did the things I needed to do to “prep” for birth and postpartum…and I thought I did it right, until I ran bleachers a few months postpartum and fully leaked on myself. 🫣 Bad enough to sit in a puddle on a bleacher to try to hide the fact that I just PEED ON MYSELF.😵‍💫

Whew, talk about embarrassing moments. And what a confidence kill. I was then dismissed by my very well intentioned OB, who told me it was “normal”, and placated by my mother, who hasn’t “run in 30 years because she had kids”. But that didn’t sit with me well. Who would be ok resorting to a life full of panty liners from age 28 to 95?

So here I am, specialized in pelvic floor, and now with three kids, no leakage, a strong core, and 2 more birth experiences under my belt that helped me TRULY see JUST HOW IMPORTANT THIS WORK IS… before, during, AND after birth.

I never imagined myself being a pelvic floor PT to be honest. I always knew I would be in sports ortho…and lucky for me, I still get to be a sports PT too, because many of my clients are active and getting back to their routine…but let me tell you…this work is fascinating, and I don’t regret, one bit, peeing on myself all those years ago, so that I would be inspired to make this my work. I have blessed myself with my own healing, and others in theirs…and that has been a wonderful GIFT.

So that’s much ado about ME! Now back to YOU! .
