🩷 It’s been a while, so I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself. I am Dr. Arienne Wrigley Ashby. I am a pelvic floor (and sports ortho) physical therapist, wife, friend, and mother to three beautiful girls (girl moms, where are you!?)
I became a pelvic floor physical therapist after my oldest daughter was born. I was already a PT working in sports ortho, and was very active before and during my pregnancy. I thought I did the things I needed to do to “prep” for birth and postpartum…and I thought I did it right, until I ran bleachers a few months postpartum and fully leaked on myself. 🫣 Bad enough to sit in a puddle on a bleacher to try to hide the fact that I just PEED ON MYSELF.😵💫
Whew, talk about embarrassing moments. And what a confidence kill. I was then dismissed by my very well intentioned OB, who told me it was “normal”, and placated by my mother, who hasn’t “run in 30 years because she had kids”. But that didn’t sit with me well. Who would be ok resorting to a life full of panty liners from age 28 to 95?
So here I am, specialized in pelvic floor, and now with three kids, no leakage, a strong core, and 2 more birth experiences under my belt that helped me TRULY see JUST HOW IMPORTANT THIS WORK IS… before, during, AND after birth.
I never imagined myself being a pelvic floor PT to be honest. I always knew I would be in sports ortho…and lucky for me, I still get to be a sports PT too, because many of my clients are active and getting back to their routine…but let me tell you…this work is fascinating, and I don’t regret, one bit, peeing on myself all those years ago, so that I would be inspired to make this my work. I have blessed myself with my own healing, and others in theirs…and that has been a wonderful GIFT.
So that’s much ado about ME! Now back to YOU! .
