Your MRI doesn’t tell your story it only whispers a few lines.
Imaging shows structure, not strength.
It can’t measure resilience, adaptation, or how your body feels and functions.

Far too many surgeries are done because of what’s seen on a screen
tiny “abnormalities” that are often just normal signs of living.
Age-appropriate changes, not emergencies.

Before you rush to fix what may not be broken,
start with movement, education, and a real conversation.
You are not your MRI.
You are more than an image
you are function, healing, and potential in motion

You didn’t “lose balance” because you’re old.
You lost it because you stopped moving.

Let’s stop blaming age for what inactivity caused.
You sat down for years.
You stopped training your legs.
You stopped trusting your body.
And the world told you that was “normal.”
That was graceful aging. It wasn’t.
It was decline...avoidable decline.

Balance isn’t something the young are gifted.
It’s something the active maintain.
And guess what? You can earn it back.
But not by being careful.
By being intentional.
By getting up.
Moving.
Challenging yourself.

If you’re afraid of falling, do something about it.
Train. Get stronger. Get steadier.
Because “just being careful” is exactly how people become fragile.

You’re not fragile. You’re deconditioned.
And that can change if you stop treating age like a diagnosis.

APTA Utah is continuing to promote PT as Primary Care!

This KSL article explains what PT as Primary Care means for patients and providers! Utah is the first state in the nation to recognize Physical Therapists as Primary Care Providers. This is history in the making and a proud moment for our profession.

This recognition:
Elevates PTs as the first point of contact for neuromusculoskeletal care
Validates years of advocacy and leadership by Utah PTs
Sets the stage for other states to follow our lead

Is cartilage stronger than concrete⁉️

Beluzzi et al. (2023) say cartilage strength is approximately 9 to 40 Mpa. The compressive strength of standard concrete is 17 to 35 MPa.

They have comparable strength, but cartilage is a living, viscoelastic tissue which is far more resilient than concrete under repeated dynamic loading and manages millions of load cycles during its lifetime.

This strength and resilience allows it to function even with a tear. This may be why tears are often asymptomatic, even in runners.

As with everything, individual cases will vary and management will be influenced by the type of tear and symptoms such as locking, giving way or persistent loss of range.

The good news is that many meniscal tears can be managed conservatively without need for surgery. Reassuring people about the toughness of the knee and its cartilage can help them see that rehab is well worth a shot!!

You've probably heard that running is tough on your knees – and even that it can cause long-term damage. But is this true? Running is a relatively high-impact activity. Every time your foot cont
