📘 Did You Know?

Bringing children to a funeral can actually help them begin to understand and process grief.

It’s okay to bring your child—just use your best judgment based on their age and maturity. Being part of the service can be a meaningful way for them to say goodbye and feel connected.

✔️ Talk with them beforehand about what to expect
✔️ Remind them to be respectful
✔️ Step out if they get restless—no judgment, it happens!

Grief is a family journey, and sometimes little hearts need space to honor big feelings too. 💙

Our Story

The History of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service

Our History actually starts many years ago and many names ago. The funeral home in Norway was started in 1940 by J.W. Raymond and was known as J.W. Raymond and Son. The funeral home in South Paris was started in the 1930’s by Clarence Huff and was known as Huff Funeral Service. By the early 1970’s Brad Raymond and Francis “Cappy” Gallant were now the owners and also had opened a new funeral home in Mechanic Falls in September of 1966, known as Gallant-Raymond Funeral Home. When Mr. Gallant sold his half of the business to Mr. Raymond, he took this opportunity to rename the business Raymond Funeral Home. This name was used until 1993. In 1993, Dana Chandler and Chris Weston, long time employees of the firm, purchased the funeral homes in Norway, South Paris, and Mechanic Falls, and over the next few years completed the transition of changing the names to Weston-Chandler Funeral Home.

In 2000, Chris Weston decided to retire and sold his interest in the business to his son, Mark Weston. (Chris Weston is still in the funeral industry with no connection to Weston-Chandler Funeral Homes). In 2003, Greg Weston, a longtime employee of the firm, became an owner.

In 2008, Mark sold his interest in the business to Dana Chandler. As we enter 2010, Dana Chandler continues to own and operate the business and takes great pride in being part of the communities in which he is located. He values the traditions of the previous owners for being a small family owned funeral home serving their neighbors, friends, and families. Also in 2010 Greg Weston sold his interest in the business to Dana Chandler to take on a new career. He is now the Executive Director at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn. Beginning October 1st, 2010 we have changed our name to Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service.
