Have a safe and wonderful day everyone!
I had a patient the other day that told me during the evaluation that he had recently had a heart valve replacement. I asked him what kind because I wanted to know if he had a prosthetic valve (checking for internal metal). He said no and that he had an equine valve put in. I asked if there were any side effects from the horse valve and he said, "Neigh."
A gingerbread man walks into the clinic and complains that his knee hurts. The Physical Therapist says, "Have you tried icing it?" 🤣😂

Our aide Dylan and a patient were debating Moes vs Chipotle last week. So today we had a burrito-off. Of the 4 of us, the score totaled at 2 for chipotle, 1 for Moes, and one non-committal answer. 😂 Although, Moes chips won the chip challenge. Which one is your favorite?
In honor of National Coloring Book Day, we had all the Rainier PT kiddos (including our aide Dylan 🤣) color the smiley picture. Our artists are ages 21, 11, 9 and 3. Who did the best job?
Today is National Coloring Book Day! Who is the coloring champ in your house? Do you stay inside the lines?
Did you know adults who color experience less stress? It helps to distract your brain away from your problems and relax your body. It also is very satisfying.
It's Fri-Yay!
Let's chat about sunscreen. There are so many options out there, so how are we supposed to know which is best?!
Here are a few tips from Cancer.org:
* Make sure you choose one that has broad spectrum protection. This means it will protect you from UVA and UVB rays.
* Use a sunscreen with at least 30 sun protection factor (SPF). This will protect you from about 97% of UV rays.
* Water resistant doesn't mean waterproof. NO SUNSCREENS are waterproof. Reapply at least every 2 hours, but less than that if you are in the water.
*The best ways to avoid UV rays are to seek shade and cover your skin.
Now this is a day I can get behind! Its National Hot Fudge Sundae Day! The Hot Fudge Sundae was created at C.C. Browns ice cream parlor is Los Angeles in 1906.

In honor of UV awareness month, enjoy this funny meme. Happy Friday!
Not all sunglasses are created equal! When your eyes absorb light, the process creates heat or chemical reactions in the eye tissue. These reactions can cause permanent damage if the eye’s natural ability to heal itself is overwhelmed.
When buying sunglasses there are things to consider. Read the label and make sure they provide 99-100% UV protection.
Also, different lens tints block out different wavelengths of light.
• Green—Allows true color perception and good contrast in bright light; reduces eyestrain in bright light.
• Gray—Allows true color perception, but does not enhance contrast; good for cycling or running.
• Brown—Good in hazy sun, enhances contrast; good for high-glare environments.
• Amber—Brightens cloudy, hazy, or foggy skies; excellent for contrast; minimizes eyestrain; distorts color (images look yellow-orange).
• Yellow—Improves contrast and depth perception in low light; good for overcast days.
• Red—Excellent depth perception in low light; contrast objects against blue or green backgrounds.
• Mirrored—Reflects high-intensity light to reduce glare; available in various colors.

Today is National Cheer up the Lonely Day. Find someone who could use some cheering up and stop by for a visit, drop off a small gift or call them to let them know you are thinking of them.
In honor of UV safety month... this is an oldie but a goodie!
July is UV awareness month. Are you taking proper care of your skin while outside in the sun?
* Find shade to hang out under.
* Wear a hat to protect your face.
* Try a pair of UV protecting sunglasses.
* Wear UV protectant or cotton clothes to protect your skin.
* Sunscreen is your friend!
Just a reminder, we will be closed today. Happy 4th of July everyone and stay safe!
This brings National Safety Month to an end. For those of you who didn't follow along and are dealing with workplace injuries, give us a call at 724-590-0494.
For the last week of National Safety Month, we are talking about slips, trips and falls. Falls are the second leading cause of unintentional injury related deaths. Take a look at this article about making falls a priority in the workplace.
https://www.nsc.org/workplace/safety-topics/slips-trips-and-falls/slips-trips-and-falls-home
Slips, Trips and Falls - National Safety Council It may come as a surprise that the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death is falls. In 2020, 42,114 people died in falls at home and at work, according to Injury Facts®. For working adults, depending on the industry, falls can be the leading cause of death.
Thank you, Paul Blart, for your service. 🤣
Let's talk about injury prevention around the workplace. In 2020, more than 4 million workplace injuries required medical attention. Here are some ways to prevent or cut down on injuries.
1. Incorporate a safety and wellness plan.
2. Conduct pre-placement physicals.
3. Educate employees and management staff.
4. Research safety vulnerabilities.
5. Provide protection equipment.
6. Have adequate staffing levels.
7. Don’t take shortcuts.
8. Inspect and maintain all company vehicles.
9. Monitor safety measures.
10. Keep an orderly workplace.
In honor of this week's safety topic....
For Week 2 of National Safety Month, we are discussing workplace impairment. The National Safety Counsil states " We all know the dangers of substance use on the job. But did you know mental distress, stress and fatigue are also impairing?" Take a look at this article regarding the effects of fatigue on the job.
https://www.nsc.org/workplace/safety-topics/fatigue/fatigue-home
Fatigue - National Safety Council Daylight Saving Time begins every year on the second Sunday in March. We "lose" an hour when the clocks are set forward (except in Hawaii and most of Arizona), and for many that means a tired couple of days as our bodies adjust.
In honor of Pet Appreciation Week....
