Eyedrops instead of Reading Glasses?
At a certain age, we naturally lose our ability to see well up close. Currently, there are a few eyedrops in trials investigating the possibility of using eyedrops to improve vision for reading. The results are promising although the drops have a temporary effect (half a day) and will likely only work for those just beginning to need reading glasses. Nevertheless, this is exciting news and gives rise to the possibilities of what may be in the pipeline. We'll let you know if any of these drops become FDA-approved for this!

We're asked this question often and the answer really comes down to preference and what activities you plan on using these sunglasses for. For those who spend time fishing or boating, polarized lenses allow you to see below the surface of the water. It decreases glare and enhances contrast by blocking out all light rays except for vertical ones. The majority of our patients prefer polarized lenses.

However, there are circumstances where polarized lenses may not be recommended such as in snow or rain, when it's important to see reflections off of icy/slick patches. (Snow goggles are best for snow and clear glasses best for driving in rain.) Some find that the lenses are too dark, or that electronic devices such as your phone or GPS in the car is not viewable.

It's best to compare a sunglass tinted lens against a sunglass polarized lens to determine what is best for you. You may also find that a gray lens or brown lens is preferred too.

Can Your Child See the Board Clearly?

We're noticing some of our young patients are having difficulty seeing the board now that classes are back in person. If it has been over a year since their last eye examination, it's time to bring them in for an exam. Not wearing glasses when they are necessary can cause a child's vision to progressively worsen. Other symptoms of vision issues are headaches, eyestrain or tired eyes (especially after computer work or reading) and double vision. Photo courtesy of Getty Images
