A recent conversation made me wonder how I too have been unintentionally blaming myself or other minorities when assuming that imposter syndrome was born out of one’s insecurities. But, you are not the problem! It’s the white patriarchy that continues to exclude minorities from being seen for their achievements, celebrated for their differences that bring something unique to the table and ultimately that do not get chosen or promoted for those leadership positions. If a minority child then looks up and doesn’t see anyone that looks like her in leadership roles, the blame cannot fall on the child. It belongs with the white patriarchy & supremist attitudes that are entrenched in every aspect of our systems.
