There are lots of things we can do to make pumping easier & more productive. Here are some of them…

Use the right size fl**ge
-pumps usually come with 2 size fl**ges, but we come in soooo many more than 2 sizes. Get the right fit & pumping will be more comfortable & remove more milk. Dm me if you want help finding your size.

Massage/compress your breasts before & while pumping
-this is called hands on pumping & helps remove more milk. Think of nursing kittens massaging their mama or a nursing baby playing with mama’s breasts…. They’re helping remove more milk!

Cover baby bottles with socks
-this helps us stop overthinking about how much milk we’re getting. When we’re relaxed we can actually remove more milk!

Watch something funny
Laughing helps us relax even more & helps our milk flooooow

Smell some of your unwashed baby clothes
-get that olfactory system involved!

Watch videos of your baby
-and if your baby nurses, then watching nursing videos can be extra helpful

These are just a few ideas…. The list goes in & on. Share what you do in the comments so other parents can benefit from your tips, too!

Has someone told you your child is too old to nurse? That they are using you as a pacifier? That they need to be sleeping X hours at night? That breastmilk suddenly loses all of its benefits the moment your child turns 1?

The list of ridiculous comments goes on & on. Feel free to tag naysayers in this post because they need to mind their own t**s!

You’re doing an AMAZING job parenting your little one. You and only you know what’s best for your baby.

Figuring out how to nurse in a carrier is a total game changer. When you can do that, you can do ANYTHING (or at least that’s how it feels).

Here are the 3 L’s of nursing in a carrier:
〰️Loosen your carrier a little bit (keep a hand on your baby when carrier is loose)
〰️Lower your baby so they can reach your ni**le
〰️Latch

Voila!! The world is yours. You can go for a walk, clean, cook, play with your older kids, shop.... all while feeding your baby.

This photo is of me & my dear daughter. We were at a play date and she started to get tired. So while my older children played, I walked around reading a book while she nursed to sleep.

Have you tried nursing in a carrier?

Nursing is so much more than just nourishment.

Don’t be afraid to use this amazing parenting tool. And if someone advises against using nursing for parenting then ask them to come put your toddler back to sleep at 2am 😂😂

Do you use nursing for any of these things? All of them? More? I’d love to hear about it!

This time of year I get a lot of parents asking about if it’s okay to nurse while sick. The short answer is YES! In fact, it isn’t just okay - it’s great! Here’s why:

When we’re sick, our bodies make antibodies to fight it off. Those antibodies then go into our milk & give our babies exactly what they need to prevent sickness. And if they do get sick, it’s often very mild thanks to our milk.

As for milk supply, try to nurse as frequently as you normally do & drink plenty of fluids to prevent a dip.

This is all true for pumped milk, too. So regardless of how you get your milk to your baby, whether it be nursing, pumping, or a mixture of the two, you’re helping keep them healthy!

Have you nurses through a sickness? How was it?

Many thanks to for this drawing

Friendly reminder.

You don’t have to sleep train.

Nursing to sleep and through the night are both normal and healthy. In fact, nighttime nursing supports healthy development for you little one & a robust milk supply.

Have you ever felt pressured to sleep train?

When you are weaning from the pump, make sure to do it slowly to avoid things such as engorgement, clogged ducts, & mastitis. Below are a few ways to approach pump weaning. Let comfort be your guide. If you start to feel uncomfortable, it's a good idea to slow down.

1. Drop one pumping session every 3-7 days.

2. Gradually decrease pumping time or the amount of milk you pump for all pumping sessions.

3. Gradually increase the length of time between pumping sessions.

Have you weaned from the pump? If so, do you have any tips or tricks to share?

Thank you for this perfect pumping drawing!

Did you know that the natural weaning age for humans is actually between 2.5 and 7 years? Nursing beyond infancy is totally normal. It’s also super healthy for the child and lactating parent. Win win!

Who else is nursing a child beyond infancy or planning on doing so? My little ones all nursed for 3-5 years.

Milk is made on a supply & demand basis. This means that if someone wants to increase their supply, they should remove more milk by nursing or pumping more frequently.

Aim for at least 8-12 milk removals per 24 hours, with at least one being overnight.

Have questions about milk supply? Ask away! And of course, if you need support with your milk supply, I would love to help you. DM me.

Thank you for turning a picture of me & my daughter nursing into this drawing 🖤

You don’t have to train your baby.

Seriously. You don’t.

Nursing to sleep and nursing through the night are biologically normal and healthy.

Nighttime nursing supports healthy development in babies. It also supports a robust milk supply.

Have you felt pressured to sleep train your baby? How’d it make you feel?

Thank you for the beautiful night nursing drawing. ❤️

It's common for partners to want to give a bottle to their baby as a way to bond. Their intentions are good, but this means extra pumping, cleaning pump parts & bottles, & learning paced bottle feeding to prevent over feeding and bottle preference.

To make everyone’s life easier, many families choose to find other ways for family members to connect with the baby. Here are some ideas:

-babywearing
-cuddling skin-to-skin
-taking walks
-reading books
-changing diapers
-singing

Does your partner have any special ways to connect with baby?

Here’s what you need to know about starting solids:

💧Breastmilk is your baby’s main source of nutrition for the first year. It's a good idea to nurse before offering solids.

There are signs of readiness you can look for in your baby. When you can check all of these off, your baby is ready for solids:
✔️at least 6 months old
✔️sitting up unassisted for at least a few minutes
✔️loss of tongue thrust reflex (doesn’t spit food out after being fed)
✔️can pick things up with forefinger & thumb
✔️seems interested in food .
And remember that all babies are unique. So while some babies are ready by 6 months, some aren’t ready till they are a little older.

Oh & that rice cereal? It’s not necessary. Babies love whole foods.

If you've started solids, what was your baby's first food?

Thank you to for this super sweet drawing!

As you can see, pretty much anything an infant does is a sign that they’re ready to nurse. 🤪

Let’s go into more detail to make sense of it:

(1) asleep, but starting to move/make noise:
You can simply bring baby to your breast to feed at this stage (without waking them!) & there’s a good chance they’ll latch & nurse. They’re running purely on instincts here. Easy peasy!

(2) quiet alert - baby is awake and quietly looking around
Again - bring baby to breast & they’ll likely latch & nurse.

(3) active alert - baby is awake, moving, rooting, trying to suckle on anything around
Baby is really trying to communicate that they’re hungry now. Time to nurse!

(4) crying
This is a late feeding cue. It’s hard to do anything when we’re all worked up & this is true for babies, too. Try to calm baby first, then latch.

The earlier you feed baby, the smoother the feed will be because they’ll be calmer. This is especially helpful for babies who are having a hard time nursing.

And the good news is that you can’t nurse too much. So if you’re not sure if it’s time to nurse, simply offer your breast & let baby decide.

We need to change our thinking around this. Babies were comfort nursing longggg before pacifiers existed.

So babies aren’t using you as a pacifier. They’re using pacifiers as you.

And I’m not hating on pacis - I’m simply trying to adjust our outlook on comfort nursing.

There’s a reason why babies have a strong instinct to suckle - its biologically normal to nurse for comfort.

It's totally normal to leak breastmilk during s*x & or**sm.

This is because the hormone oxytocin is involved with or**sm & the flow of breastmilk.

Here are a few things you can do:
〰️speak with your partner about it, so they know it might happen
〰️nurse or pump beforehand
〰️wear a bra during s*x

Have you ever leaked milk while getting freaky?

Thank you for drawing these leaky breasts for me! 🖤
