Today is the final day to submit a workshop proposal for RECO2026.

Research tells us what works. Action determines whether it reaches people — and the ideas shared at this conference help bridge that gap across New Jersey’s recovery ecosystem.

If you have an approach, strategy, or lesson from the field that others can put into practice, this is your moment to share it.

Workshop submissions close today, January 23, 2026.

Conference date: March 5, 2026
Location: Seton Hall University

Whose voice is missing from the recovery conversation?

Too often, the people closest to the work — peers, providers, advocates, organizers, and community leaders — don’t see themselves as “conference presenters.” But your insight, experience, and perspective are exactly what moves the field forward.

That’s why NJ-CARS is still welcoming workshop submissions for RECO2026, taking place March 5, 2026 at Seton Hall University

If you have a lesson learned, a model that works, or an approach shaped by real-world experience, there’s still time to share it.

Submissions are open through January 23, 2026.

Today we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., whose work reminds us that justice is not abstract. It is something we build through systems, policies, and collective responsibility.

Dr. King spoke often about dignity, access, and the moral obligation to care for one another. In the recovery community, these principles are reflected in the belief that recovery is not just an individual journey, but a community outcome. People heal best when they have access to stable housing, meaningful work, culturally responsive services, and systems that recognize lived experience as expertise.

At NJ-CARS, we carry forward this legacy by strengthening recovery ecosystems across New Jersey. We work to ensure that recovery support services are equitable, data-informed, and rooted in the voices of people with lived experience. Honoring Dr. King today means recommitting ourselves to policies and practices that remove barriers, elevate peer leadership, and make recovery possible for all.

Justice, equity, and recovery are deeply connected. Our work continues until they are accessible to everyone.

Who We Are

Around the country, communities of recovery have come together to bring additional, improved resources for recovery support services to their states and communities. Now is the time for the New Jersey Recovery Community to stand together and ensure that the expansion of recovery support services in the state is driven by the recovery community.

It is not enough for peers to be front line workers in recovery support. Individuals in recovery should be empowered to take the lead in developing, implementing, and governing these services. By coming together, we strengthen our voice to ensure we are heard by decision-makers, collateral service providers, and, most importantly, individuals struggling with substance use disorders and their loved ones.

CARS is supported through funding awarded to Prevention Links by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) through the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), which was signed into law by President Obama in 2016. Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) is a three-year initiative designed to mobilize resources within and outside of the recovery community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery support from substance use disorders.
