What is Our Story?
ELNAS HELPING HANDS – SOBER LIVING LLC is a targeted transitional housing and sober living program located in South Plainfield, New Jersey. This residence will offer a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for individuals recovering from addiction, trauma, and homelessness, with a priority for military veterans. The founder, a disabled Army veteran familiar with PTSD, street life, and substance use, found a renewed sense of purpose through God’s grace and the kindness of Good Samaritans. He is now dedicated to helping others who are facing similar challenges.
This program is named in memory of Elna, the founder’s cherished stepdaughter, who tragically lost her life at only 19. Elna was compassionate, loving, and always willing to assist others. She had a passion for tinkering, was pursuing a degree in Computer Science/IT, and aspired to join the Army, just like her stepfather. Her unexpected death left the family heartbroken. In her grief, her mother turned to substances for solace but eventually discovered healing and a new beginning in a recovery/sober living home. This transformation inspired the creation of this home to honor Elna’s legacy.
The family’s eldest daughter, an NYU graduate currently in medical school, also joined the Army to uphold the family’s enduring commitment to service. Thus, this program is founded on personal experiences, resilience, and love—guided by the belief that “we believe in serving to be served".
As a team, we are striving to spread love and support. However, we do not intend to accomplish our mission alone. We are searching for like-minded volunteers, donors, and sponsors to join us. Together we can.
