🙏A Moment of Gratitude🙏

I always knew I wanted to have my own yoga studio. The minute I finished my teacher training, my goal was to teach as much as I could with the goal of having a space of my own someday. It was and is what brings me so much joy! It was just fate that I had the honor to take over the Breathing Room. The studio I fell in love with the minute I walked in the door.
It has been 5 years since making that jump and we have since expended into the Aerial Room as well. It has not always been easy and much like life and our practice it ebbs and flows, but it has always been a space that I find calmness & magic and I hope you find that too.
With an abundance of yoga studios to choose from I am grateful to our community & teachers who continue to show up and choose this space to practice and grow while you also support my dream. This space is for you. To meet new friends, reconnect with others, connect with yourself, and to let go.
Whether I have seen you in my classes, worked with you one on one or maybe we have yet to meet, I THANK YOU for following us, continuing to support me, The Breathing Room, and our wonderful teachers.

Meet Jared

Jared has a Yin/Yang style of teaching. His sense of fun, challenge and humor shines in aerial classes while his meditative, contemplative side guides his yin yoga class. Jared first earned his Aikido Black Belt in 2015 after years of focused training. He felt the urge for more and yoga teacher training called. He completed his 200 Hour Yoga Certification with Boston School of Yoga/Terry Coburn and Ame Wren in 2016. Jared’s continuing education has included Yin Yoga (twice!) & Trauma Sensitive/All Bodies trainings with MUSE School of Yoga in 2017 and 2018. After teaching vinyasa and yin for a few years followed by a break during the pandemic, Jared re-ignited his yoga practice & skills with Aerial Yoga Teacher Training & Sound Practitioner training in 2022 & a second Yin Yoga Teacher training with Andrea Gleason/Southern Maine Yoga School in 2023.
Jared is an insurance professional during the business week, and on weekends he teaches Aerial Decompression, Yin Yoga for Men and offers sound baths with crystal bowls and percussion instruments, and helps train aerial yoga teachers here.

Our class schedule includes Vinyasa Flow, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and Barre Classes. From our beginner to more challenging classes, we are focused on cultivating an intimate and accessible space. In addition we are now offering Aerial Yoga, and Support Yoga utilizing the support of our yoga rope wall, slings, and chairs. Our offerings are a mix of in-studio and online, and range from 45 minutes to 75 minutes. All bodies and levels are welcome!

Meet Caren 🤸‍♂️
Caren has been practicing vinyasa and power yoga regularly since 2016, and started aerial yoga weekly in 2021 while living in Alexandria, Virginia. Upon moving to Maine in 2022, an aerial yoga studio was more important to locate than the Trader Joes!  She was so excited to find Leaping Waters?Breathing Room and immediately joined the community as a regular. A year later, she took the opportunity to complete aerial teaching training with Robin and grow her experience further. 
Yoga has taught Caren so much about her own body, how it moves (and doesn’t move) and what it’s capable of. Aerial takes this to new levels, literally, and adds an extra layer of fun as well. Caren’s favorite things to do in aerial are climbs and core work - but on harder days, there’s nothing like being gently held in the fabric and letting go of that muscle tension. Caren fosters a safe environment of playfulness and small challenges that get you out of your day-to-day headspace to leave you feeling both strong and refreshed. She’s the perfect teacher if you want some advancing moves and she crafts fun, themed classes during the holiday seasons.

Meet Alicia🧘🏻‍♀️🤸🏻‍♀️

Alicia found yoga through Aerial. She was instantly hooked on how amazing Aerial yoga made her feel mentally and physically. Her urge to empower others and provide the same love of movement lead her Aerial Yoga Teacher Training with Robin Ivy Payton at Leaping Waters Yoga.  

Alicia completed her aerial yoga teacher training one year after her first aerial class in 2023; shortly after she started teaching Aerial Yoga once a week. Her love for yoga and wanting to learn more and provide more to her students brought her to  Southern Maine School of Yoga where she completed her 200 YTT in April of 2024. 

 Alicia has played, coached, officiated and Managed Women’s football for 17 years. She is a 12 time All American and has coached athletes in the sport for over 10 years. Her experience as an athlete and coach has set the foundation for her to be an amazing yoga teacher. Football was Alicia’s Yang.  Her Yin is now Yoga which has balanced her life beautifully. Her heart and passion to guide people through movement shines forth as she brings an energy that inspires people to move. Alicia also teaches Yin Yoga after training with Andrea Gleason and is on her Reiki practitioner journey with Kristine Keegan here at Breathing Room.

Alicia loves teaching both adults and young ones and is capable in both strengthening classes and restoratives such a yin and aerial earth.

Meet Liza🧘🏻‍♀️

Liza is a Kripalu Certified Yoga teacher with over 15 years’ experience practicing yoga and
meditation. Yoga has been a constant in her life for nearly 2 decades – what was once a
practice became essential. The exploration of movement deepened into a profound study of
self-discovery, philosophy and spirituality. Eventually, she immersed herself in a mindfulness
program through Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, where she began to learn all that yoga
encompasses – that yoga is a journey to your truest self. Liza brings lightness, creativity and
compassion to her teaching. You can expect meditation, visualization and a moderate intensity,
complimented with thoughtful background music. She teaches dynamic flows and provides an
environment accessible for both beginner and advanced yogi. Her focus is on embodiment and
providing a space for self discovery. She resides in Portland, Maine, with her two energetic and
passionate daughters

Meet Taylor🧘🏻‍♀️

Taylor first came to yoga after sports injuries and found solace in the practice for her body but more importantly for her mind. After practicing for several years, she completed her RYT 200 training with Vishuddha Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. Learning more about the mind body connection informed her practice and teaching and deepened her understanding as a mental health professional. She utilizes yoga as a means of self-care integrating breath, movement, and meditation into her daily routine and teaching practices. Taylor wants to bring the experience of integrating mind and body to all of her students.

While in graduate school in California, Taylor taught yoga with detainees in jail and for mental health professionals and became certified in trauma-informed yoga. She continued to teach in studios in multiple states while completing her doctorate in psychology. After relocating to Maine in 2024, Taylor began working towards her 500 hour certification with a focus on Yoga Therapy. She hopes to draw on her experiences as a mental health professional to improve and expand the experience for students on the mat.

Our merge with Leaping Waters is happening! We are so excited to welcome them into our community and to be able to bring new offerings to our Breathing Room Community!

The studio doors will be open between both spaces creating one big beautiful space once again! 🥰

When you step through our bright yellow door, you’re walking into more than just a yoga studio. We’ve composed an everyday sanctuary, a peaceful-yet-playful space where our students can leave chatter outside and connect with our community. Our experienced instructors build heat in our room with vinyasa flows and cool things down in yin class. We offer adjustments and whisper alignment tips in our classes to personalize every practice. Through our 200-hour teacher training program, we mentor those who want to lead classes or deepen their relationships with yoga. No matter what’s drawn you to your mat, you’ll emerge from savasana with an open heart, a calm mind, and a strong body.
