The new Sheepscot platform is complete. Brendan and his crew of Joe, Stewart and Zack spent most of this week finishing the wheelchair ramp and railings. A few things remain to be decided including: new lighting for the north end of the platform, lights for the east / back walkway and wheelchair ramp area plus roofing over part of the wide section of the platform.

More good things indeed.Thank you for offering families options to be engaged with your new space and exotic animals.

We are excited to announce Taciana Ribeiro Saab as our new ADA Director. Her leadership and collaborative efforts aim to understand perspectives around disability, awareness of civil rights under the ADA, and improved methods of sharing tools.

We look forward to the positive impact Taciana will undoubtedly bring to the New England ADA Center, reinforcing our commitment to intersectionality and equity. https://www.humancentereddesign.org/news-events/welcome-taciana-ribeiro-saab-our-new-ada-director

Here's the flyer for our "Visit Goat Hill" event coming up on Saturday, November 4th at 12:30 p.m. We thank AARP for funding for the benches and improvements to the parking area. We will have volunteers available along the trail to answer questions and lend a hand if needed.

"In 2017 the IBC’s accessibility standard, ICC A117.1 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, added a requirement for accessible beds to be no lower than 17 inches and no higher than 23 inches – measured to the top of the uncompressed mattress."

Will the DOJ keep its promise to do something about too-high hotel beds? Maybe, says our ADA Expert. But don't celebrate quite yet.

More inclusive trails? Yes, please! There are still a few spaces left in this workshop on Aug 9-10, to help trail stewards improve trail experiences for more people. Enock and Kara of Maine Trail Finder and Community Geographics are leading the workshop. It will be held at the Camp Dodge Trails Training Center in NH. ME trail stewards are welcome!

The Appalachian Mountain Club is hosting, and Adaptive Outdoor Education Center Maine is providing adaptive equipment and expertise.
