Alzheimer’s disease is a common type of dementia that affects a person’s memory, thinking and daily life. Symptoms include memory loss, difficulty completing daily tasks, confusion and major changes in mood and behavior.

Raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease can help inform and clarify misunderstandings about this type of dementia, encourage early treatment, and support those navigating symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

If you or a loved one experience signs of dementia, talk with your healthcare provider.

Routine human papillomavirus (HPV) and Pap tests can help find cervical cancer early before symptoms appear. The HPV test looks for the virus that can cause cell changes. A Pap test helps find abnormal cells early enough so they can be treated before cancer grows.

Talk to your primary care provider (P*P) about which cervical cancer screenings you need and how often. Learn more at https://www.hpsm.org/member/health-tips/preventative-care/get-the-cancer-screenings-you-need

Staying hydrated is important for your health, especially in the summer heat.
Dehydration (when your body doesn’t have enough water) can happen quickly, especially in kids, older adults and anyone spending time outdoors or exercising.

Drinking water regularly throughout the day helps keep your body cool, your mind sharp and your energy up.

Use these tips to help keep you hydrated:
- Carry a reusable water bottle when you go out
- Choose water over sugary drinks
- Eat water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon and oranges
- When eating out, order water with your meal
- Don’t wait until you’re thirsty—sip water regularly
- Drink more water while exercising, during hot weather or when you are sick
- Seek medical attention right away if you experience confusion, fainting, rapid heartbeat, or breathing, or cannot urinate

If you feel stressed out, you're not alone. Stress is a normal response to life’s demands and challenges. Adding self-care habits into your routine can help you manage your stress and boost your mood.

Use these tips to help manage your stress:
- Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
- Move your body regularly
- Get enough sleep
- Talk to someone you trust—family, friends, a mental health provider or a spiritual leader
- Avoid drugs and alcohol, which can make stress worse
- Try stretching, deep breaths or meditation

If you are looking for mental health care, call the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) ACCESS Call Center at 1-800-686-0101 to get connected to care.

It’s back-to-school time – and a great time to take your child in for their yearly well visit (or check-up)!

If it’s been more than a year since your child’s last check-up, call your child’s primary care provider (P*P) to schedule one, even if your child is healthy. This will help your child grow strong and stay healthy, both in and out of the classroom.

Be sure to bring:
- A list of any questions or concerns you have about your child’s growth and development, such as what vaccines or screening test they are due for
- Any school forms your child’s P*P needs to sign, such as permission for sports
- Your and your child’s HPSM member ID cards
- Additional information that may be helpful, such as vaccination records or recent after-visit summaries

Did you know it is important to protect your child’s eyes from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays?

Children’s eyes are as at risk to damage from the sun’s UV rays as their skin. Protecting your child’s eyes now helps safeguard their sight for the future. Use these tips to help protect your child:

- Choose sunglasses with 100% UVA/UVB protection
- Use wide-brimmed hats that shades the face
- Encourage outdoor play in shaded areas between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, when sunrays are strongest.
