Happy Pride Month!

Pride is about community, visibility and making sure everyone feels safe being exactly who they are.

At HPSM, we’re proud to partner with local organizations like the San Mateo County Office of Diversity & Equity and the San Mateo Pride Center to support the health and well-being of our LGBTQIA+ community.

We’re committed to ensuring our members can access care in environments that are
welcoming, respectful and affirming. Looking for resources or support? Learn more about LGBTQIA+ health in our community: www.hpsm.org/lgbtqiaplus

Today, we honor and remember the brave service members who gave their lives for our country. Their sacrifice reminds us of the importance of caring for one another — especially the families, veterans, and communities they left behind.

At HPSM, we carry that commitment forward by working to ensure access to quality healthcare and support for all, because caring for our community is one way we honor those who served.

We remember. We reflect. And we commit to care because .

Your mental health matters — and help is available.

Seeking care for your mental health is just as important as visiting your primary care provider (P*P) when you’re sick or something hurts. If you notice any changes in your mood that affect your ability to take care of yourself, participation in daily activities or your relationships, it’s a good time to ask for mental health care:

• Talk with your primary care provider (P*P) about how you’re feeling. They may have recommendations to help you feel better.
• Call the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) ACCESS Call Center at 1-800-686-0101 (TDD: 1-800-943-2833) to be connected with a mental health provider.
• Your HPSM benefits cover mental health services at no cost, including talk therapy and medicines.

You are not alone – HPSM is here to help.

Caring for your mental health is important during pregnancy and after giving birth. Many pregnant people and new parents experience changes in mood, sleep patterns and emotions. Some may experience longer-lasting symptoms of sadness and
anxiety.

If you or a loved one is struggling emotionally while pregnant or after giving birth:

- Talk to your primary care provider(P*P) or prenatal provider about how you are feeling. They may have recommendations to help you feel better.
- Call the Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) ACCESS Call Center at 1-800-686-0101 (TDD: 1-800-943-2833) to be connected with a mental health provider.

To all moms — birth moms, adoptive moms, stepmoms, foster moms, grandmothers, aunties, chosen family, caregivers, and anyone who shows up with love, care, and heart — we see you.

To those caring for families and communities, and to the moms working in healthcare who give so much of themselves both on and off the clock: thank you for everything you do.

This Mother’s Day, take a moment to check in with the moms in your life. Ask how you can support them, lighten their load, or simply give them time to rest, recharge, and feel appreciated.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, give yourself permission to slow down and take care of yourself.

Adding self-care habits into your routine can support your mental and emotional health. This includes:

• Getting enough sleep
• Exercising regularly
• Eating healthy
• Staying connected with loved ones by phone or in person
• Writing down your thoughts and feelings in a journal
• Talking to your primary care provider (P*P) about how you are feeling

Today, we honor the nurses at the heart of healthcare — including the many nurses working across HPSM in clinical, care coordination, quality, behavioral health, and community‑focused roles.

Nurses bring compassion, skill, and strength to everything they do. Whether they’re supporting members directly, guiding care behind the scenes, or helping families navigate complex systems, their work makes a lasting difference for individuals and communities alike.

To every nurse at HPSM, in San Mateo County, and beyond: thank you for the care you give, the comfort you provide, and the dedication you show every day.
