Women carry so much — the weight of survival, the pressure to succeed, and the expectation to stay strong without space for vulnerability, just to name a few.

Join us for Carrying the Weight, Claiming Our Power: Pasifika Women in Conversation as we gather in storytelling and reflection to process what we’ve carried and reimagine what reclaiming our power can look like.

This space is part of a larger movement to challenge harmful narratives and uplift Pasifika voices.

Talanoa Tuesday with Luseane Tutoe

Luseane Tutoe is a recent graduate holding her M.A. in Ethnic Studies with a B.A. in Sociology, Minor in Critical Pacific Islands and Oceania Studies (CPIOS) from San Francisco State University. She identifies as a Tongan scholar with roots in Neiafu, Haalaufuli, ‘Ofu in Vava’u; ‘Utualu in Tongatapu; and here in the San Francisco Bay Area (San Bruno, CA). Luseane has dedicated her services to supporting Pasifika efforts at SFSU, from organizing community events to participating in protests and demonstrations, and takes pride in being able to extend Pasifika values into western systems. Luseane was honored to receive the 2024 Graduate Student of the Year Award and was also recognized as the 2025 College of Ethnic Studies Hood Recipient. Her graduate research uplifts the navigational wealth of Pacific Islander students obtaining higher education in the Bay Area diaspora, utilizing the Kakala Research Framework. She has also taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at College of San Mateo and City College of San Francisco and currently works as a restorative justice youth impact coordinator for PCRC at EPA Academy.

Caroline Tuipē Washington is the Founder, President, and Executive Director of Decolonise All, where she leads initiatives that center Indigenous knowledge, culture, and identity while connecting youth and communities to STEM, technology, and leadership opportunities.
Previously, Caroline worked in biotech, where she co-led several Inclusion and Employee Resource Groups focused on amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering mentorship and professional development. These experiences continue to inform how she builds sustainable programs and partnerships in the nonprofit space—helping youth and communities carry cultural knowledge confidently into new frontiers.
Caroline thrives at the intersection of culture, education, and community leadership, guiding programs that empower the next generation of leaders to see themselves in science, technology, and beyond.
