Firefighter Cancer Awareness month begins this week as new federal legislation expands benefits for families of firefighters who die from cancer.

01/08/2026

In addition to the beginning of the 2026 Nebraska Legislature session, January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month. At the intersection of those two tidbits lies what we believe to be the most important bill of the session: LB400. Nebraska Firefighters are exposed to cancerous environments routinely, and despite the significantly higher risk of developing workplace related cancers, are often left to fend for themselves after a cancer diagnosis. We urge all of our followers to contact their State Senator and ask them to support LB400, so the firefighters that you rely on can continue to serve you without fear of complete financial ruin after an occupational cancer diagnosis.
