While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent atrial fibrillation, understanding your genetic risk gives us a head start.

If you have a parent or sibling with AFib or another heart rhythm issue, your risk may be higher. By sharing this history with your doctor, we can begin monitoring early and take proactive steps to manage your heart health.

Early intervention is key in preventing complications like stroke, heart failure, or worsening arrhythmias.

Some arrhythmias are frequent and easy to catch. But others show up rarely and unpredictably. That’s where an electrophysiology (EP) study comes in.

During this minimally invasive procedure, I use small catheters to stimulate the heart with electrical signals or medications. This allows me to induce the arrhythmia in a controlled setting, helping identify the exact type and origin.

🫀 If you’ve been diagnosed with an arrhythmia, especially something like AFib, atrial flutter, or certain types of SVT, you may have heard of catheter ablation.

Here’s what it is: a minimally invasive procedure where we use thin wires inserted through veins to target the source of abnormal heart signals. Using radiofrequency or cryo energy, we can interrupt the electrical misfiring that's causing your irregular rhythm.

The goal? Reduce symptoms, improve quality of life, and in many cases, avoid lifelong medications.
Catheter ablation is one of the most effective tools we have and it’s changing lives every day. 🌟

🥼🩺 Having completed two additional years of fellowship specifically focused on heart rhythm disorders allows me to provide the most precise and personalized care possible.

That added training makes a real difference. It means I’m not just looking at your heart health broadly, I’m digging into the electrical system that keeps it beating in rhythm. 🫀

🥵 Hot flashes are a common symptom of menopause but they’re not always just about hormones.
It’s Women’s Health Month, and I want to raise a flag many overlook: some hot flashes may be heart-related. 🫀

Yes, truly. Irregular heartbeat, palpitations, and autonomic changes can masquerade as hot flashes and they might be your heart’s way of asking for attention. Don’t brush it off as “just aging.” Your body is smart and sometimes your symptoms are trying to tell you something important!

The answer? Probably never.

There are a number of unique factors ranging from pregnancy complications to hormonal shifts that directly impact a woman’s risk for heart disease and arrhythmias.🫀Yet, these are rarely part of the standard cardiac conversation.

🥱 You may not be “just tired” or “just stressed.” Sometimes those symptoms are warning signs of a deeper issue. During Women’s Health Month, I want to encourage every woman to advocate for comprehensive care that considers your whole health story, not just the basics. 💖

🫀 It’s Women’s Health Month- a good time to address one of the most damaging misconceptions in cardiovascular health: that heart disease is mainly a “men’s issue.” Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in women AND men. Yet, because the signs and risks can look different in women, it’s often underdiagnosed, undertreated, or dismissed.

💓 If you’re a woman reading this, ask yourself:
- Do I know my blood pressure, cholesterol, and family history?
- Have I had my heart rhythm evaluated if I’ve been feeling off?
- Am I making lifestyle choices that protect my heart long-term?

Your heart health is not a secondary issue. Know your risk. Make smart choices. Advocate for your care!
