The postoperative period for cosmetic surgeries (i.e.: liposuction, BBLs, tummy tucks, arm tucks and breast reconstruction) is one of the most critical phases in recovery. This is where manual lymphatic drainage massage (MLD) aids most in decreasing fibrosis: the fluid accumulation that hardens into lumps and bumps below or in the skin. Fibrosis disruptions in lymphatic flow lead to excess swelling, prolonged pain, and aesthetic inconsistencies.

This is where I come in. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) via hands on circular and cross fiber stroking breaks up the fibrosis and moves lymphatic fluids that have become blocked or disabled in procedured areas into functioning channels where they can be expelled. MLD reduces lymphostasis, facilitates healing, improves blood circulation, reduces pain, minimizes swelling, and presents a more desired aesthetic of surface tissues.

Postoperative swelling can take between 3 and 6 months for the body’s lymphatic system to resolve.
Therefore, I recommend manual lymphatic massage 2 to 3 times per week during the initial 3 to 6 weeks of recovery, then once a week over the following 6, then once a month until the end of the 6 to 12 month full healing course.

Making MLD therapy a priority in your post operative routine ensures optimum results for procedures. It’s an investment for an investment in yourself. And it’s a necessity when facing pain, swelling, fibrosis, and lymphatic system reabsorption. I highly encourage all postop clients to consider it!
