HILLS I WILL DIE ON AS A PERFORMANCE PT

Rehab isn’t just about getting rid of pain — it’s about building a body that’s more resilient. 💪

⭐Strength training plays a huge role in both rehab and injury prevention. By progressively strengthening muscles and bones, we create better support and protection for our joints.

⭐Pain can be tricky and complex. Feeling pain doesn’t automatically mean something is damaged. Learning what your symptoms mean — and what they don’t mean — is an important step in your rehab journey.

⭐Lifestyle factors matter more than most people think. A few hours of exercise each week can’t fully offset poor nutrition, dehydration, lack of sleep, or constant high stress. When these factors aren’t addressed, recovering from injuries can take longer than necessary.

⭐Pain and injury are signals telling you to pay attention. In many cases, the solution isn’t complete avoidance — it’s gradually and progressively loading the area so it can adapt and become stronger. Avoiding it entirely may actually make you more vulnerable to problems later.

⭐And remember: being pain-free isn’t th finish line. Continuing to build strength, capacity, and proper training habits helps prevent the same symptoms from returning.

Rehab is a process — and building strength is one of the best tools we have. 🏋️‍♂️

SPRING MARATHONERS AND RACERS- Are you giving your glute medius muscles the love they need to keep you running healthier, faster, and longer? 🤔

While not a gross muscle like the quads or the glute max, the glute medius is an incredibly important muscle for single leg stability.

And yes, you run on 1 leg 100% of the time.

Potential injuries from glute med weakness/dysfunction are fair game from the back, the hip, the knee, and the foot/ankle.

While band walks are amazing warm up drills, they don’t provide enough load to create the strength gains you’re seeking.

The weather is getting nicer and those running shoes in your closet are calling- but make sure you do the work outside of those runs to keep your body happy and healthy 😎

SPRING MARATHONERS: are you keeping those hammies happy??🤔

Hamstrings training outside of running is SUPER important. This muscle group is active during two main parts of your run- from foot strike through stance phase and then again from mid swing to initial foot strike.

The main way we use our hamstrings during running is eccentrically, meaning we contract them as they’re lengthening. So when you train them outside of running, you should have an eccentric focus (lengthening the muscle) vs. a concentric one (shortening the muscle).

AKA trade out that hamstring curl machine at the gym for a deadlift or Nordic curl 😏

Your hamstrings recruitment also increases with faster running. So if you do any sort of speed work as part of your training, hamstrings training is critical for you!

There are some risk factors with running form that can increase your risk of hamstring injury- if you don’t know how your gait looks, come on in for a gait analysis and personalized development of a home program! 👍
