Today we hosted a very special breakfast for our Independent Living residents to learn all about what Assisted Living at The Cove is like. The morning started off with made to order omelettes, bacon or sausage and fruit. After breakfast, our residents headed into the Assisted Living Activities room for a discussion on the different levels of care we offer.

One of our wonderful nurses Leslie was there in addition to our Executive Director Ken and Sales team members Larry and Rita. They took the time to inform our residents that if they move over to Assisted Living, not much has to change. They’ll still have access to amenities on the Independent side of the building and the apartments are exactly the same. Events like this are a wonderful opportunity to show our Independent Living residents that if they happen to need more care they don’t have to leave the place they love dearly.

TIME FOR SOME BABY ANIMALS!

The Barn Babies came to Thirwood Place today and it was nothing short of magical. Seeing the looks on the faces of Thirwood residents as they held and pet baby bunnies and kitties was priceless. There were baby birds, a baby goat, and a little pig named George running around our auditorium. Animals are incredibly therapeutic and brought so much joy to our community!

ARTS AND CRAFTS WITH RICK!

It is truly incredible to see how Rick manages to outdo himself each month with an even more beautiful craft than the last! Today, with the help of Rick, our residents made beautiful fall themed decorations.

They filled jars with decorative leaves and LED lights. Then, topped their jar with ribbon and a pine cone or pumpkin. It’s a perfect centerpiece for Thanksgiving or a festive light for anywhere in your home. This activity is always a great opportunity for our residents to laugh and bond.

HAPPY VETERANS DAY!

Veterans Day is one of the most important days of the year at Thirwood Place. We are home to over 20 veterans who have served in the Army, Navy, National Guard, Air Force and more. Today our residents enjoyed a Veteran’s Day lunch in our Dining Room. Before they enjoyed their meal, we started with the Pledge of Allegiance led by our Executive Director Ken Smith. Then, our very own Mr. Wells played Taps for everyone as he does for all our Patriotic holidays.

The day finished off in our Auditorium with musical entertainment hosted by Cape Cod’s radio voice, Ed Lambert. Ed Lambert read roll call for all of our resident Veterans. After roll call, the very talented We AreThe Men, Male Voice Choir performed some wonderful and patriotic tunes. It was an incredibly moving performance. We also have to mention that two of our residents, Call Mutti, and Bud Ferris performed in the choir as well.

We at Thirwood Place, are so honored to be home to so many Veterans. We are so grateful everyday for their service and that’s why we make sure today is a powerful day filled with remembrance and celebration. Happy Veterans Day.

TRAINING DAY!

Team building training days are very important at Thirwood Place. Thirwood has so many different departments from Housekeeping, to Maintenance to Food and Beverage, Nursing, Security and more. These training days are an opportunity to bring everyone together.

Today we learned how to properly use fire extinguishers with the help of Lieutenant Matt Bearse from the Yarmouth Fire Department. It was great for everyone without experience to learn something that will ensure the safety of our residents.

There’s always time for fun too! We finished off training with some games of BINGO, a raffle and an awards ceremony for employees that have worked for 3, 5, 10, 15, 25 and even 30 years!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween is always a very fun day at Thirwood Place filled with costumes, candy, celebrations and more. We had some wonderful costume entries in our costume contest including The Flintstones, strained spaghetti, a flapper girl, a caveman and MORE.

Our team works hard to make these holidays fun, special, and exciting for our residents. We hope you all have a wonderful Halloween!

THE COLD WEATHER HAS ARRIVED…

And you know what that means. Unfortunately, Cold and flu season is here too.

Today, our residents were able to get their Flu and COVID shots right from home in our auditorium! One of the ways we make sure everyone stays as healthy as possible through the winter.

LET’S LEARN ABOUT HORSESHOE CRABS!

Mass Audubon came to Thirwood Place today for a very interesting presentation. Our residents learned all about horseshoe crabs. They’re behavior, biology, diet, and MORE!
