MAY ARTS AND CRAFTS!
Today, in Arts and Crafts with Rick, our residents created beautiful patriotic plants. First, they painted their pots red white and blue in honor of Memorial Day. Then, Rick planted a Hosta plant in each pot. It’s so nice to see residents laughing, sharing stories, and helping each other while enjoying a Thirwood activity.

A Point of View:
In Ancient times May was named for the Roman Goddess Maia who was associated with growth and fertility. In Old English May was called “the month of three milkings” for the abundance of milk produced by cows in that period. In the Catholic tradition it was known for the Virgin Mary.

Some cultures celebrate May with maypoles wrapped with ribbons to dance around. We celebrate Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, considered the gateway to summer. Emily Bronte wrote “of May, the month of expectations, wishes, and hope.”

Today is National Nurses Day and we have to take a moment to appreciate the incredible nursing team here at Thirwood Place led by our Healthcare Director Sara Gifford.

Thirwood is beyond lucky to have a nursing team that our residents consider family. They work tirelessly to ensure that residents are safe and cared for. Nurse’s commit their lives to helping people and deserve the biggest THANK YOU!

SHOP 'TIL YOU DROP!

Yesterday, the Thirwood Place auditorium was transformed into a department store thanks to Ray Smith from Bea Smith clothing. For 20 years now Ray has been creating a beautiful shopping experience at Thirwood. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our residents to see the latest styles without having to leave home.

Our Activities Coordinator Erin knows our residents so well that she acts as an in-house stylist too! Huge thanks to Ray for being apart of our Facebook Live and continuing to come back twice a year. SETTING THE TABLE FOR SPRING!

Check out the latest edition of Taste of Thirwood. In this episode Chef shows our live studio audience how to make Eggs Benedict three ways. The first is a basic Eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon. He also made a Lobster Benedict and a Tenderloin Benedict with a Béarnaise sauce.

Taste of Thirwood - A Table Set for Spring - Brunch 3 Ways

TASTE OF THIRWOOD!

Last Friday we filmed our Spring Brunch episode of Taste of Thirwood with a special twist. For this segment we included a live a studio audience from our very own community. With Larry’s help, Chef Payne demonstrated how to make Eggs Benedict three ways. A regular Benedict, a tenderloin Benedict with a Béarnaise sauce and a lobster Benedict.

Chef made sure to show the audience his personal techniques and preferences for the perfect Hollandaise sauce. While Chef was cooking, Larry educated the audience on the origins of the Eggs Benedict.

Chef didn’t forget about our residents with a sweet tooth either. He made a stuffed French Toast with strawberries and cream for anyone who wasn’t interested in a savory dish. It was an exciting day filled with laughs, friendship and a delicious brunch menu.
