Hypnosis is a mind/body science using the mechanics of the interplay between mental, emotional and physical bodies to create change. A person will only accept suggestions that are in accordance with what he truly desires. Below is a sample list of issues that can be addressed through hypnosis:
STRESS MANAGEMENT
WEIGHT LOSS
SMOKING CESSATION
FEARS AND PHOBIAS
INFERTILITY
PAIN MANAGEMENT
RELAXED CHILDBIRTH
ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE
PROCRASTINATION
SELF ESTEEM
JOB PERFORMANCE
SURGICAL PREPARATION AND RECOVERY
A few facts about the human mind/body connection:
- 90% of our behavior, including talking, walking, positive or negative thinking, how we see ourselves and the world around us, has been learned, since birth.
- Learning takes place on the conscious level of mind, then, through repetition, is stored on the subconscious level of the brain, to be retrieved when needed. All that is needed to activate the learned program is either a thought, from the conscious mind, or a sensory cue, such as sight, sound, touch, smell or taste from the sensory system. The subconscious is a machine which reacts automatically, without "conscious" thought. However, often inaccurate associations are made, creating inappropriate physical responses to reality. For example, when a person experiences a traumatic experience, any sensory reminder, seeing a similar place, hearing a similar sound, or getting a whiff of a similar smell, can in the future, trigger the same physiological response of panic. With an awareness of this process, however, the brain can be re-taught to react differently, through the same mind/body mechanical model.
- It takes 3 - 4 weeks to reframe and reprogram a behavior on the subconscious (machine) level of the brain, through repetition of suggestion.
- All hypnosis is self hypnosis. It works because the client wants to make the change and therefore is willing to accept the suggestions. In most sessions a recording is made so that the client can firmly plant the suggestions by repetition.
- A hypnotist helps the client to reframe and reprogram the subconscious by acting as a facilitator in inputting new suggestions. Through the tools of progressive relaxation, creative visualization, and repetition of suggestion, the changes begin to become the new behavior.
