Baptist DeSoto is proud to be part of the community to help make a difference in the lives of others. Also, thank you to Southaven C of C for their commitment to our business community.
As President and CEO of the Southaven Chamber of Commerce, I want to commend the leadership team at Baptist Memorial Hospital–DeSoto for the thoughtful creation of its Community Advisory Board and for the intentional way they are engaging business and civic leaders across our region.
Yesterday, the Advisory Board gathered to hear an important briefing from David Mitchell, head of hospital security, who provided a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s safety protocols and technology investments. His presentation highlighted several advanced measures currently in place, including body cameras for security personnel, license plate readers, and AI-powered identification systems designed to enhance situational awareness and response. He also shared updates on the hospital’s commitment to infant safety and the sophisticated fire alarm and emergency response systems that protect patients, visitors, and staff every day.
Equally encouraging was hearing about the strong working relationships the hospital maintains with the Southaven Police Department and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office. Partnerships like these are essential in maintaining a safe, responsive healthcare environment for our community.
What makes this Advisory Board especially meaningful is the broad representation around the table. Business and community leaders, including the Mayor, Sheriff, DeSoto County Schools, local churches, restaurant leaders, higher education partners such as Northwest Mississippi Community College and University of Mississippi, nonprofit organizations, and hospital department leaders; all receiving timely, transparent updates about the hospital’s operations and priorities. That level of collaboration strengthens not only healthcare delivery, but the overall resilience of our community.
Join me in thanking Brian Hogan for his leadership and for his commitment to keeping Baptist DeSoto a first-class healthcare institution. We are incredibly fortunate to have a hospital of this caliber serving the people and businesses of Southaven, Mississippi.
