Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto will be hosting a free baby fair this coming Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s outpatient waiting area on the main floor of the hospital. During the baby fair, moms, dads and other caregivers can learn about car seat and seat belt safety, get healthy pregnancy tips, receive infant CPR information, and learn about breastfeeding, lactation support services and much more. Local vendors, Women’s Pavilion tours, a photo booth, giveaways and prizes will also be featured during the baby fair. Baptist’s nurses, obstetricians, pediatricians and other child health experts will be on hand to answer questions.

Vickie Ross, Baptist DeSoto occupational therapist, and Robert Edmonds, one of our inpatient rehab patients, are beginning to plant the flowers in our rehabilitation garden. The simple process of growing flowers and vegetables in our rehab garden helps our patients to increase mobility, endurance, strength/muscle tone and motor coordination. Gardening activities have also been found to help build memory, attention, concentration, correct sequencing, and problem solving as well as name and color identification. Our 30-bed Inpatient Rehab unit offers both advanced therapy equipment and a friendly engaged interdisciplinary team who helps those who are unable to perform normal daily activities due to: stroke, head injury, hip fractures, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, major multiple trauma, amputation, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other debilitating conditions resulting in loss of independence in self-care and mobility. The Baptist Memorial Hospital - DeSoto Outpatient Pharmacy is here to meet all of your prescriptions needs. Since our opening, we are now contracted with most major pharmacy insurance plans. Baptist DeSoto and the DAISY Foundation love to recognize nurses for the extraordinary compassionate, skillful care they provide patients and families. By honoring compassionate nurses, DAISY reinforces the importance of compassion in healthcare. Baptist Desoto presented the DAISY Award to Janet Scola, registered nurse in our outpatient department, for exemplify empathy, professionalism, and the true spirit of nursing. She specifically worked with case management and social work to help a patient in time of need. We are proud to have Janet at Baptist DeSoto! !
