✨As we continue to celebrate World Down Syndrome Awareness Month, here are some fun and educational facts:

📘 Learning may take a little extra time, but nothing stops big goals from being reached.

🧬 That extra chromosome #21 is what makes the Down syndrome community extra special.

🏅 Athletes with Down syndrome shine in the Special Olympics—swimming, running, and winning medals along the way!

👶 About 1 in every 700 babies is born with Down syndrome— so chances are, you know someone rocking an extra chromosome.

🎨 Creativity comes alive through art, music, dancing, and sports.

🌍 With love and support, those with Down Syndrome grow up to go to school, work, and live amazing lives full of joy.

It’s functional communication Friday! 🥳 today we are sharing a common myth about AAC devices ❌
- Myth: Using AAC will stop verbal speech from developing
• studies have shown the opposite to be true, with a majority of studies actually showing an increase in speech production after using an AAC device! Research shows that AAC has a positive effect on speech for the following reasons:
⭐️1. It increases and improves the individuals participation in conversation with the ability to produce longer messages
⭐️ 2. It reduces physical demands and the pressure to speak
⭐️3. Speech generating devices provide an immediate model of the word as well as an association between the word & the symbol or picture on the device which helps kids increase their vocabulary
