Nate the Great Leukemia Warrior Update page for Nate's leukemia fight

Good morning!

We were admitted yesterday afternoon for his first 28 day round of Blina (Antibody Immunotherapy). He had to have a unit of IVIG before they started it. We already knew his antibodies were low. They had been wanting to give him IVIG for a week but I wanted them to retest for some weird antibodies he had when we first got to St Jude in Dec.

IVIG is a clear blood product that is made from many different donors. Those donors carry antibodies from illnesses they've had in life and can transfer to the recipient of blood or blood products. Nathaniel Lebo received daily doses of IVIG at the end of November into the first 3 days of December before we were transferred here. He tested positive for a lot of weird things he never had. So we needed to be sure those things were from the IVIG. He was on daily antibiotics because of that. They retested him on Friday and everything came back negative. He has had daily antibiotic stopped and has moved to regular preventive antibiotics.

His Blina was started at 10 am this morning. The current plan is to go home on Friday as well as he doesnt get any side effects from the medicine. They montior him and make sure he's good then he continues his meds via continuous IV through his port for 28 days. We come in weekly for needle changes, bag changes and to see his doctors.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers! We appreciate everyone of yall!

Life is definitely busy right now.

Nate had a very busy week with appointments. Kacey started his first real job and of course the Farmer's Market opened for the season on Saturday. I had alot of baking to do on top of getting the boys where they needed to be on time. Charlie helped but it was still a very busy week.

Nathaniel Lebo is good. His high dose chemo was clear on Friday. He had a follow up with his heart doctor. His heart still looks fine. We're still working on meds to control his blood pressure and heart rate. He had a follow up for his eyes. They're fine as well. He does need new glasses.

His oncology team is happy with all his counts so he'll start his first 28 day round of immunotherapy Wednesday morning. He'll be in the hospital from Tuesday night until Friday morning so they can monitor how he responds to the immunotherapy drug. He will have a continuous IV via his port for 28 days to slowly deliver his medicine. We're really excited for this part. They expect him to feel great while he's getting this part of his treatment. It will be a HUGE change from the chemo drugs.

That's all for now. I will do my best to keep yall in the loop!

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! We appreciate all of yall.

We are home. Nathaniel Lebo isnt feeling so great right now. His counts are extremely low. His words are "I feel like crap".

We have appointments the rest of the week as he continues to clear his high dose. His level was much lower yesterday but still detectable.

His counts have to recover by next week since he's scheduled to start immunotherapy.

I will update again later.

We are not allowing visitors right now. Nate is extremely immunocomprised.

Yes I know I'm behind in posting updates for this round of high dose chemo. There is a reason for it.

This round hasnt gone well. His lumbar puncture with chemo didnt happen. After 4 needle sticks all 4 resulting in blood rather than spinal fluid, they determined he has a hematoma under the lumbar puncture sight and would not continue to stick him any more. Not a big deal. Since his spinal fluid has always been clean with no signs of leukemia cells, they decided to make this one up later. On paper he is treated like he has had leukemia cells in his spinal fluid due to the amount of steroids given at Methodist University prior to being admitted to St Jude. St Jude didnt get the opportunity to get a clean bone marrow biopsy or lumbar puncture before he started treatment.

His 24 hour infusion of high dose chemo went pretty good. His levels were good throughout the infusion. His 23 hr came back fine. However his hemoglobin, ANC and platelets starting dropping yesterday morning. His creatinine has also increased, which is normal for Nathaniel Lebo but they don't like it. It climbed up over a full tenth of a point overnight last night.

His ANC and platelets are trying to come back up today but his hemoglobin has dropped more. His 42 hour level is double what it should be. This morning they switched him over to IV medicines and increased his rescue medicine and his fluid rate. As long as he's on a high fluid rate and has sodium bicarbonate in his fluids, he can't get blood. It will dilute the blood faster than his body can benefit from it.

He has been more asleep than awake since yesterday evening. He isnt eating or drinking much.

He is definitely keeping us on our toes as usual. Hopefully his labs will look better tomorrow.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! Keep'em coming! We appreciate everyone of yall.

It's hospital admission day for Nate's last round of high dose chemo for this phase of treatment. We are going to the hospital shortly for his clearance visit. They have to make sure his counts are good before admission.

Tomorrow he will go down at 7:30 ish am for his lumbar puncture with chemo. Then around 1:30 pm they will start his 24 hour high dose.

This dose will be stronger than the previous 2 rounds but not as strong as the first.

Pray his kidneys keep it flushed out. He has to p*e every 2 hours.

Pray his pH levels stay between 6.5 and 8.5 during his chemo.

Pray for the doctor doing his lumbar puncture. May his or her hands remain steady and they only have to do 1 stick.

Pray for Nathaniel Lebo.

We appreciate everyone of yall! I will update tomorrow and as I can.

Nathaniel Lebo got a decent report today from his doctors.

His high dose chemo level is un-dectable! It took 6 days this time. Yay!!!!

His counts have dropped even lower. His hemoglobin and platelets are fine post chemo and 1 unit of blood. His white blood cells are super low and his ANC is barely 900.

We will continue to not allow visitors until after this last round of high dose chemo.

His last round for this phase will be next Thursday. He will be admitted to the hospital Wednesday evening for fluids. They will do his lumbar puncture with chemo Thursday morning and his 24 hour high dose will start around 1:30 pm. I will update as I can once everything starts next week.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate everyone of yall!

We are home!

We have a week filled with appointments. His chemo level was where they expected to be at 66 hours today.

He feels okay. He's very tired and has no immune system to fight anything off. We aren't allowing any visitors right now. It will be a couple of weeks before we allow visitors again. He should be starting his last high dose around April 15th. After that he will start his first round of immunotherapy.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! We appreciate everyone of yall!

He is done with this round of high dose chemo. He finished about 30 mins ago. We still waiting for his 23 hour level to come back but this round went much better for him. He did get a unit of red blood cells because his hemoglobin dropped below a 7. His kidneys seem to be processing this round much better than we expected.

We should be able to go home late tomorrow or mid day on Sunday. We're waiting on the doctors to decide how they're going to do his rescue meds. They are given at hour 42 no matter what his level is. But his level determines how many doses he needs, whether or not it can be given via IV or orally and if he goes home on IV fluids or not.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! They are working! We appreciate everyone!

Nate's lumbar puncture went great this morning.

They started his high dose chemo around 1:30 pm CDT. They'll check his level around 3:30 pm CDT to see if any adjustments need to be made. Then again at hours 12 and 23. He'll finish this round between 2 and 3 pm CDT tomorrow (just depends on how many times they have to stop it for labs and adjustments)

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! We truly appreciate them.

Nathaniel Lebo was admitted around 3:30 pm today to get ready for round 3 of high dose chemo.

His kidneys are good. His blood count is great for a chemo patient. His liver has me a little worried. His AST and ALT are slightly elevated but nothing to cause any major concerns.

Tomorrow morning, he'll get his lumbar puncture with chemo.. Tomorrow afternoon around 2 pm, they'll start his high dose chemo.

Prayers are appreciated! I will update everyone as much as I can during this hospital stay.

We are home after Nate's high dose chemo on Wednesday. We got home this afternoon.

He did much better this time. They started him on fluids Tuesday night. Wednesday morning they did his lumbar puncture with chemo and started his high dose at 2 pm. He has had no vomiting or nausea.

He is still having some issues clearing the chemo but his level is much lower (almost where it should be). He's getting extra rescue meds and continuous IV fluids but we were able to be discharged.

He will have to go back every morning for labs and appointments until his level is at zero. Right now the plan is to do his third round of his dose around April 1st.

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers! We appreciate it!
