Meet Karen Lovejoy, a Cardiology Coordinator at our Cardiac Care Center at Harrington Hospital.

"I’ve always been drawn to work that truly helps people. Health care felt like the perfect path because it combines compassion, purpose, and the chance to make a real difference. Even though I work behind the scenes, knowing that my efforts help ensure patients get the care they need is something I’ve always found meaningful and motivating.

My favorite part of my job is being the person who helps everything come together smoothly. Whether it’s coordinating the schedules, making sure appointments are arranged correctly, or supporting my team, I love knowing that what I do helps our department function at its best. I take pride in being someone others can rely on.

One of the most memorable moments for me has been seeing how much of an impact good coordination and teamwork can have on patient care. When everything aligns — the schedule, the providers, and the patient’s needs — and a difficult situation turns into a positive experience, it reminds me why I do what I do.

I love working at UMass Memorial Health because of the people. The sense of teamwork, support, and shared commitment to patient care creates a workplace where everyone truly matters. Being surrounded by dedicated and kind colleagues makes even the busiest days better. Plus, it’s nice to work somewhere where you can laugh, help others, and still feel appreciated — that’s not something you find everywhere.

When I’m not working, I can often be seen relaxing with my husband and my cats, binge-watching TV series, spending time with family, or attempting to convince myself that running errands counts as a hobby."

Congratulations are in order for Ed Moore, President of Harrington Hospital, who was elected to the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Board of Trustees during its Annual Meeting on January 29!

“Ed has been a stabilizing force for Massachusetts healthcare for many years, and we have been lucky to lean on his experience as a trusted voice for patients and caregivers,” said MHA President & CEO Steve Walsh. “His success as a leader has always been tied to his special connection with the community, and that is the perspective we know he will once again bring to the MHA Board. We are excited to have him join us as a trustee in what will be an important year for community hospitals like Harrington.”

Almost a year ago, Harrington Hospital opened its new eight‑bed ICU — a modern, spacious unit built to elevate patient care. Since then, procedures have run smoother, families have more space, and transfers have dropped significantly.

With eICU telehealth, Epic integration, and a rapidly expanding remote patient monitoring program, outcomes are stronger than ever — including cutting readmissions for high‑risk patients in half. This expanded ICU is helping keep care close to home, advance health equity, and attract top clinical talent.
