Your average adult, especially in their later years, may feel out of breathe going up a flight of stairs and they tend to think to themselves they're "out of shape" and need to do more cardio. But thats not the case.
You're not out of shape. You're weak.
For example: If each step takes 80-85% of your maximum strength, increasing your leg strength and maybe even decreasing your bodyweight, will cause that same step to decrease the effort required to 40-50% of your maximum strength, keeping you from feeling out of breathe going up stairs.
Strength training is not just for body builders or youth sports.
It's a necessity to live and more so to live well.

A well-rounded fitness program for a high-quality life should focus on these three key areas:
1. Cardiovascular Health
The goal is to improve your heart and lung fitness so you're in the higher range of aerobic capacity (VO₂ max) for your age group. We measure this, so you can track your progress with real data.
2. Movement & Balance (Neuromuscular Training)
This means gradually increasing the complexity of your movements—improving balance, stability, coordination, and overall body awareness. We focus on training that helps you move better in everyday life, not just on machines. Activities like hiking or recreational sports are a great addition.
3. Muscle Health
You need strength, a bit of muscle tone, and endurance—not just for looks, but to support your metabolism, reduce inflammation, and stay independent as you age. Building and maintaining muscle is one of the most important things you can do for long-term health.

You don’t need to crush every workout.

When we stop lifting, reaching, or climbing because they feel hard, we lose those abilities over time.
