FIREMEN DELIVER BABY IN FRONT OF FIREHOUSE ON MONDAY

** A Surprise Delivery Turns a Quiet Evening at the Firehouse Into a Memorable One **

What started out as a routine shift Monday evening for Assistant Chief Glenn Boles and Firefighter Reed Novak at the Firehouse on Hardee Lane in Whispering Pines on June 30th quickly turned into something extraordinary.

According to one person that we spoke with, around 6:30 p.m. the Assistant Chief had been enjoying dinner with his visiting family when he was interrupted by his son who came running to him “Daddy, there’s a man out front calling for help.”

The firefighters rushed outside and found a woman sitting in a vehicle clearly in active labor.

Wasting no time, they assessed the situation and requested an EMS ambulance be dispatched to respond to their location.

The couple had a young child with them, and the Assistant Chief's wife and children reportedly comforted the child, so the mother wouldn't worry and the firemen could remain focused on assisting the mother-to-be.

Moments after checking in over the radio with dispatch for an ETA on the ambulance that was enroute, he radioed back with unexpected news - the baby had arrived. Just eight minutes after initial contact, the firefighters had safely assisted in the delivery of the newborn right there in front of the firehouse.

After EMS arrived, the mother and baby were transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital by ambulance marking a joyful end to an unforgettable shift.

Whispering Pines Fire Rescue and Moore County EMS responded to this incident.
