This week, the PCAFL Board traveled to Tallahassee to advocate on behalf of Florida’s Nurse Registry industry.
With the continued guidance of Corcoran & Partners, we successfully navigated the Capitol and met with key decision-makers to ensure the Nurse Registry perspective was clearly represented.
This year, we set aside broader legislative priorities to focus on HB 1013, a proposal put forward by the Home Care Association of Florida that, as written, would have been extremely unfavorable to Nurse Registries and the consumers we serve.
Through private meetings with the Agency for Health Care Administration and formal discussions with Representatives, Senators, aides, and committee staff, we believe we made a strong case for why HB 1013 in its current form is not good public policy. Importantly, we have begun efforts to work collaboratively with HCAF to help shape the bill into something that can better serve the home care industry as a whole.
We are fortunate to have a strong trade association protecting Nurse Registry interests, and we remain optimistic that this legislation can ultimately be shaped into something positive.
Highlights of the trip included meetings with House Speaker Manny Diaz Jr., House and Senate health committee leadership and staff, and numerous legislators and aides who play a direct role in shaping Florida health care policy. In addition to scheduled meetings, several informal pop-ins helped further advance our message.
A special thank you to PCA leadership and members who made this trip possible, including Marries N. Gomez, PCA President; Scott Strachan, Vice President; JB Bensmihen , Secretary; Lyn Hetrick, Treasurer; and Jacob Plotsker, PCA member and business partner of JB. Your time, leadership, and commitment to protecting the Nurse Registry industry are truly appreciated.
Overall, our time at the Capitol was productive, and our advocacy efforts were a success.
