Our Philanthropy Volunteers have been hard at work spreading a little extra “good cheer” and building meaningful connections with The Episcopal Day School 💛

They put together thoughtful treats paired with printed notes of encouragement for 3rd–5th grade students as they head into annual testing, because a small gesture can go a long way in helping a child feel supported and at ease.

At Penick Village, philanthropy is about more than giving, it’s about connection, compassion, and showing up for others in meaningful ways. We’re proud of our volunteers for helping make test day a little brighter!

Our Wine & Wickets Challenge was a hit! 🍷🏏

The Chiefs gave it their all against guest pros (the pros took the win this time!), while residents enjoyed playing across three courts in Hutchins Hall. Best of all, we raised awareness and funds to support residents who outlive their resources.

We’re continuing our journey across the state celebrating the leaders shaping the future of aging services.

We are proud to recognize Chip Cromartie, CEO of Penick Village (Southern Pines, NC), recipient of a 2026 Excellence in Leadership Award. He is pictured on the right with our President and CEO, Tom Akins, on the left.

Since stepping into his role in 2021, Chip has led a transformation grounded in vision, strategy, and ex*****on. From advancing major campus expansions and strengthening financial sustainability, to achieving a five-star healthcare rating and embedding mission-driven values into daily operations, his leadership is felt across every part of the organization.

Under his guidance, Penick Village has become a forward-thinking, resident-centered community positioned for long-term success and growth.

We are continuing to visit member communities across the state to honor the individuals who make a difference in the everyday lives of residents and teams.

🙌 Please join us in celebrating another outstanding person in our field. Last week, Tom Akins visited Penick Village (Southern Pines, NC) to honor Thomas McCain, recipient of a 2026 Service Excellence Award.

Thomas is known for going beyond his immediate role on the housekeeping team, bringing skill, awareness, and collaboration across service areas to better support both residents and co-workers. 👏 Through his charismatic and selfless approach, he builds strong relationships and contributes to a culture grounded in shared values.

His impact does not go unnoticed. Thomas is frequently recognized by residents and team members through “Living the Values” commendations, reflecting the consistency and care he brings to his work each day.

Ladies Night out with our COO Carrie at Ironwood Cafe was one for the books! 🍸✨
We enjoyed a delightful evening on the town filled with great drinks, delicious food, and even better company. (Dessert not pictured… because we ate it all 😄)
The service was excellent, the atmosphere was lively, and the other guests were so delightful—we may have even convinced a few gentlemen to consider calling Penick Village home!

It was a BIG day at Penick Village as we celebrated two members of our team who had earned major awards from LeadingAge North Carolina. Tom Akins, President and CEO of LeadingAgeNC was on hand at Penick to present not one, but two awards of excellence to two very deserving team members. Houseman, Thomas McCain, was presented with the award of Service Excellence. CEO, Chip Cromartie, was presented with the Leadership in Excellence award. We could not be prouder of these two individuals who exemplify all that Penick Village stands for and more. This prestigious recognition is one more hallmark of Penick’s work towards being a premier Life Plan community. Join us in congratulating Thomas and Chip!

Our Assisted Living residents were on the move recently and enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Southern Pines Land and Housing Trust, where they attended the UNCG School of Theatre’s production of The Lincoln Sisters of Deckawoo Drive. 🎭

It was a fun and memorable experience for all, filled with laughter and great storytelling. We are so grateful for the incredible community partners who help create meaningful opportunities like this for our residents to enjoy.
