Our eyes go through a lot of changes as we get older. Most of it is completely normal, but it helps to know what to expect.
👀 Reading up close gets trickier – Somewhere around 40, you might find yourself holding your phone a little farther away. That’s presbyopia, and it happens to almost everyone as the lens loses flexibility.
👀 Your eyes feel drier – If your eyes feel scratchy or tired more often, you’re not imagining it. We produce fewer tears as we age, but eye drops can make a big difference.
👀 Glare becomes more bothersome – Headlights at night or bright sunlight might start to bother you more than they used to. This is usually due to gradual changes in the lens.
👀 You notice more floaters – Those little specks or squiggly lines drifting across your vision? Pretty common. Just keep an eye out for a sudden increase or flashes of light—that’s worth a call to your doctor.
👀 You need more light to see clearly – If you’ve been turning on extra lamps to read or do detailed work, that’s normal too. Our pupils get smaller and our lenses let in less light over time.
If anything feels off, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help you see your best at every age!
