Welcome Our Newest Board Member!

We’re thrilled to welcome Jerold Hawkins to the Board of Directors at Orchards Children’s Services! A proud alum of Orchards and U.S. Army veteran, Jerold brings over 18 years of corporate leadership experience in supply chain management, IT, finance, and manufacturing, having served in key roles at AT&T, Ford, and GM.

He currently leads as Senior Director of Global Supply Chain Management at Aptiv, where he champions strategic sourcing and operational excellence across the region. Born and raised in Detroit, Jerold is not only a seasoned professional but also a devoted father of two daughters.

When asked about joining the board, Jerold shared, "Joining the board of Orchard’s Children Services is deeply personal for me. Having spent the first 5 years of my life in foster care, OCS was the very conduit that led me to my forever home as a child. To now be in a position where I can both relate to the children we serve and give back to the organization that helped shape my journey is an incredible honor. It is with true gratitude and humility that I accept this opportunity, and I cannot wait to serve alongside you in continuing this life-changing mission."

Welcome Our Newest Board Member!

We’re excited to welcome Elgin Cooper to the Board of Directors at Orchards Children's Services! Elgin serves as a Senior IT Delivery Manager, North America at Volkswagen Group of America, with over 30 years of experience driving innovation across the automotive, healthcare, and consulting industries. As a longtime volunteer and supporter of Orchards, he brings a passion for mentorship, diversity, and community impact to our board, along with deep expertise in technology and leadership.

When asked about his new role, Elgin stated "I’m excited to join the Orchard Children’s Services board as it’s a natural extension of my long-standing commitment to children and families. It gives me the opportunity to collaborate with others who share this passion and to contribute my skills and experience in a way that strengthens families and builds healthier, more connected communities."

About Us

A little more than fifty years ago Orchards Children’s services was established by the Greater Detroit Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. The founders recognized the need to improve the lives of children. This small, courageous group of women dared to question how things had been done. They believed that practices of the past were insufficient. They dared to challenge the status quo and begin something new. The founders of the Orchards looked back and plotted a course to move forward. It is doubtful that even those remarkable people who had the vision and courage to develop a new course could have foreseen the Orchards Children’s services of today.
