New data released this month shows the Detroit Public Schools Community District’s graduation rate has climbed to 83.2% in 2025 — the highest in district history.

I’m celebrating 30 years as a physician, but my road hasn’t been easy. I overcame my own health challenges, i jave loss ovwr 54 bounds, rebuilt my practice after being a victim of Medicare fraud, and pushed through two government shutdowns that affected my work.

Still, I chose service. I traveled to Ghana with my church to help build a school, a media center with new computers, support community leadership, and provide medical care, supplies, and medications to those in need.
